Analyst/Associate, Junior Rates Trader (London)

Job Description

What is the opportunity?

We are hiring a Junior Rates Trader to support the day to day activities in our European Flow Rates Trading (EUR FRT) team based in London. The individual will work closely with the existing EUR FRT team and needs to have a strong interest in fixed income markets and an eagerness to learn.

What will you do?

  • Gain a good understanding of the Fixed Income Sales & Trading (bonds, derivatives, interest rate derivatives and credit trading).
  • Support senior traders with management of risk across various books across the desk.
  • Work with team members across the desk to assist with daily tasks and reporting obligations.
  • Establish and maintain internal relationships across FICC to further desk goals and personal development.
  • Work with sales functions to develop an understanding of the needs RBC’s clients.
  • Work with control functions such as Risk, Compliance Legal to ensure governance and controls infrastructure are adhered to.
  • Pass all Financial Control Authority (FCA) regulatory exams required shortly after employment commences
  • Complete ad-hoc projects and duties as required
  • Complete classroom based and e-learning training as instructed
  • Be actively involved in university recruiting as required
  • Operate at the highest standards of compliance.
  • Understand and align to RBCs core culture and values.
  • Proactively identify operational risks/ control deficiencies in the business.
  • Review and comply with Firm Policies applicable to your business activities.
  • Escalate operational risk loss events, control deficiencies and risks that you identify to your line manager and the relevant risk and control functions promptly. Failure to do so may subject you to disciplinary action, up to and including termination.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Educated to degree level or relevant experience
  • Fluency in English
  • Knowledge of the Global Markets environment

Nice-to-have

  • Strong knowledge of Rates and Fixed Income products and markets
  • Prior experience working with a Rates trading business in a front office role (Sales/Trading).
