Phlebotomy Job description
To take venous bloods safely from patients on the wards and outpatient departments.
To check the identity of the patient, ensure than any special instructions have been followed (e.g period of fasting) and to gain patients consent to proceed.
To take venous blood of good quality using aseptic techniques and ensuring minimum of pain and discomfort to the patient.
To make sure samples arrive at the labs safely
To work within a team and also lone working,
To work with a computer on wheels using the EPR system
To work in an efficient manner to ensure the phlebotomy work is completed in the best practical time.
To obtain and keep up to date with all learning
To ensure that safe working practises are maintained in the interests of both staff and patients according to Trust and Departmental policies
To co-operate with strategies to reduce cross infection
To make judgements regarding the viability of taking blood samples based for instance upon the state of the veins in the patients arm or the treatment being received by the patient.
You will listen, be respectful and treat others with compassion and kindness.

The Trust comprises of four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.
The phlebotomy service covers all sites across the trust.
Tuesday 07.00-12.00
Thursday 07.00-12.00
May include weekends.
A driving license and use of car isessentialas you will need to be able to cover the John Radcliffe, Churchill and the Horton hospital Banbury.
