The UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health (GOS ICH) The mission of the UCL GOS Institute of Child Health is to improve the health and well-being of children, and the adults they will become, through world-class research, education and public engagement. The UCL GOS ICH, together with its clinical partner Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, forms the largest concentration of children’s health research outside North America. GOS ICH’s activities include active engagement with children and families, to ensure that our work is relevant and appropriate to their needs. About the role

This is an outstanding opportunity to work independently on a newly funded project from a grant from the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinsons Research. The post holder will use a range of Long Read Sequencing technologies such as PacBio Sequel IIe and Oxford Nanopore PromethION from patient and control brain tissue and blood. This includes DNA and RNA extractions and sample cataloging, library preparation and sequencing. Highly motivated scientists with an excellent track record in genetics, molecular biology are encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will work in a dynamic and innovative laboratory within the Zayed Centre for Research into Rare Diseases in Children, as well as across the close collaborations with The Institute of Neurology at UCL. The salary range for this post is £35,702 - £37,548 pa. This post is funded until 31st Dec 2024 in the first instance.

About you

The successful candidate will have BSc or equivalent in Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, or a related subject, or equivalent experience, be self-directed with excellent research and project management skills, capable of working collaboratively in a team of researchers, while maintaining independent thinking and initiative
