Salary Scale: £85-£90 per day

End Date: Mid July 2023 with the opportunity to extend in September 2023
Contract type: Long Term Contract, 5 days a week, 8:30 – 16:00
This role will give you experience of working Neurological, respiratory, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, and immune system problems are not uncommon for our learners and present barriers to their access to education.
LSA role to begin immediately, February 2023, is full time, 5 days a week and the school is a specialist school for Autism, mixed to lower-level learners and Profound Multiple Learning Challenges. The school is all through SEN school, 3-16, with classes of no more 6 students at any one time. The school focuses on a EYS and Primary curriculum due to the very different learning levels of the students within each class and sector of school. This means you will have classes with students of different ages.
Many children with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) present with significant communication difficulties which can make it hard for them to express their emotions and to have them acknowledged. However, children with PMLD can often develop a social connection through improvised Art and Music making. Art and Music therapy can be used to create meaningful connections with those who are often isolated and frustrated.
Do you know your future objectives within Social Work and Advocacy, advocating for children and vulnerable adults with low levels of learning, helping them have as much independence as possible, if it is viable. The students will benefit from Speech and Language, Art, OT and Music Therapy, different therapies will be suitable for each class and child.
You will get to see outside agencies at work, including Art and Occupational Therapists come into school, as well as use your own Artistic and creative skills to aid learning and well-being.
GSL are seeking a passionate and dedicated Graduate Learning Support Assistant to work within an outstanding SEN Provision in Chelmsford. The provision focuses on PMLD children with Autism, Complex Social Needs, aged 3-16, each child will have a EHCP for their specific need(s) and the level of learning is specific to each class.
If you have personal aspirations within OT, Clinical Psychology, Education Psychology and Child Development, this is a good base and LSA role in which to start with. This LSA role brings out holistic, therapeutic, and restorative qualities and skills, all important aspects of a future role as a Qualified Therapist. To gain access to the the Clinical MA and Research Projects you desire, it is crucial to have 9-12 months of paid experience under your belt, you need to be able to qualify and disqualify these areas for yourself.
This role is all about giving the children as much joy, stimuli, and recognition as possible, each child’s learning ability will dictate the approach and levels of objectives! Many children will get the greatest enjoyment.

**Specialist PMLD School for children aged 3-16, tailored curriculum for each student based on ability, not the child’s age
**Focus on Autism, low to middle functioning students, there will students of higher ability sporadically throughout the school

**Dependent on the class and the student’s need, elements of personal care will be required
