Role Purpose:
To support the work of the GBS Academic Standards and Quality Office in ensuring relevant student policies and procedures are fully and consistently implemented across all GBS campuses and programmes of study. To work with the Student Engagement Manager to ensure processes for engaging students in quality enhancement activities are embedded in the design of systems and processes. To facilitate activities related to the annual cycle of student voice and engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the work of the GBS Academic Standards and Quality Office in ensuring relevant student policies and procedures are fully and consistently implemented across all GBS campuses and programmes of study.
- Support the Student Engagement Manager with the production of high-quality student engagement reports required for both internal and external audiences.
- Support the effective operation of internal and external surveys and other key feedback mechanisms.
- Facilitate opportunities for students to engage with academic standards and quality activities, including supporting student representatives in preparation for attendance at senior committees (e.g. Academic Board) and in compiling an annual Student Engagement, Voice and Representation report.
- Support Student Engagement Manager, Dean of Students and Marketing to promote and facilitate student engagement activities.
- Collate student feedback gathered through a range of student voice activities to understand and explore issues affecting students; creating resources and activities which close the feedback loop for students.
- Support Student Success Tutors in the election of elect student representatives
- Maintain the student representative handbook, associated communication materials and training resources.
- Support student "guest editors” to design the bi-monthly Student Life Newsletter with the Dean of Students.
- Maintain the Student Voice pages on the VLE.
- Act as secretary, as required, to the Student Representative Committee and for student consultation meetings and focus groups.
- Write high quality reports using quantitative and qualitative data for internal and external audiences.
- Work efficiently, accurately and with attention to detail.
- Take on special projects as required and related to the role of Student Engagement Officer.
The Student Engagement Officer formally reports to the Academic Standards and Quality Director and will be allocated tasks and responsibilities by the Academic Standards and Quality Director and the Student Engagement Manager.
Liaison with GBS Staff
- Key relationships are with Quality Officers and Managers, Deans, Associate Deans, Dean of Students, Student Success Tutors, Programme Leaders, teaching staff and administrative staff, as appropriate, under the guidance of the Student Engagement Manager.

- Excellent written skills with experience of report writing.
- Ability to compile, analyse and evaluate qualitative and quantitative data.
- Creativity in producing student-facing documents and communications.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Able to work to challenging deadlines and deliver set objectives.
- Able to deal with sensitive student data.
- Good organisational skills.
- Willing to travel to GBS campuses, as appropriate.
