Job Description

Job Introduction

This role is to support the in-house Music Supervisor with music administration, clearance and creative for BBC Studios 3rd party commissioned productions.

Our production teams produce cross-genre shows for a diverse range of broadcasters including Apple, Amazon, Channel 4, Channel 5, UKTV, Discovery, Netflix and PBS in North America.

This is an exciting opportunity to work within a fast-paced and expanding Music Rights team, working on global reaching productions with some of the world’s best creative talent.

Main Responsibilities

  • To support the in-house Music Supervisor to provide production teams with informed music creative and copyright information to achieve the best music soundtracks possible
  • Keeping updated pitch lists of active score composers/agents
  • Guiding Production on Music Production Libraries – which ones are available to them, creating playlists and facilitating clearance.
  • Music cuesheet checking
  • Licencing of MCPS Production Library via the IPC scheme
  • Tracking and data input of production slates, music clearance requests & deals
  • Ensuring all 3rd party commissioner music requirements and guidelines are up to date
  • Music rights ownership research via the PRS database and international PRO’s
  • Designing music training guides, presentations, resource tools and updates for all of production and the supporting in-house Music Rights Team
  • Liaising with production and finance to ensure composer payments are made in a timely manner
  • Podcast music clearances
  • External networking with Production Libraries, Composers and their agents
  • Attending Music Industry events
Are you the right candidate?

Essential Criteria

  • Music industry experience – preferably at a Music Publisher/Music Clearance/Music Supervision/Music Rights Society or Music Production Library.
  • Knowledge of music copyright
  • Knowledge of the rights required for clearing music for media (synchronisation)
  • The ability to work to tight deadlines and priorities work load
  • Strong administration and tracking skills
  • Hold a passion for varying music and production genres and an interest in specially composed music for media.
  • An interest to meet with music rightsholders, composers and their agents, music production libraries and to attend music industry events

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in the composer commissioning space
  • Experience with International music rights and licensing
