Detailed job description and main responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY:

The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust approved the quality strategy in 2015. The aim of this strategy is to apply improvement science to build a culture of continuous improvement which improves patient safety, patient experience and staff experience.

The improvement advisor (IA) is a member if the central quality improvement (QI) team and provides leadership and operational management for aspects of the QI programme at Royal Free Site. The potholder will work with the senior improvement advisor, director of quality and site executive leads identify priority workstreams. It will then be the role of the improvement advisor to provide support to these improvement projects and QI coaches. As a small team it is highly important that there is a strong emphasis on working flexibly in order to achieve priorities at the time.

This role will require a blend of science of improvement knowledge, project management skills and excellent stakeholder engagement skills to ensure the programme is considerate and additive to existing work taking place.

In addition to advising on priority improvement workstreams, our Improvement Advisors are key members of the quality improvement (QI) faculty. Each Improvement Advisor will contribute to developing and delivering training programmes as well as our wider learning system.

Key accountabilities:

  • Shape & lead on delivery of priority improvement projects.
  • Support the development of QI in line with the Trust’s plan, and in demonstrating the impact of improvement work
  • Supervise and mentor of quality improvement coaches
  • Champion, inspire and promote the development of a culture of continuous improvement
  • Provide leadership on complex and high profile improvement work
  • Provide expert advice on improvement methodologies including the use of data
  • Contribute to capability building in improvement science and developing learning systems through being a member of the improvement faculty
  • Identify and facilitate improvements appropriate for rolling out in other areas
  • Ensure patients are at the centre of QI work and play a pivotal role in improvement
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior stakeholders, across the group and external to the group.
  • Contribute to developing and implementing systems and processes for tracking organisation wide QI work
  • Contribute to the analyses, reporting and performance management of QI projects across the organisation
