An exciting and rare opportunity to work within the UK Music Industry, we are looking for an experienced Corporate / Legal Secretary to join us to manage the ongoing administration associated with our board calendar across the MPA Group of Companies.

The Music Publishers Association works on behalf of its wide-ranging membership to protect and enhance the rights of the music publishers and creators at the heart of British music’s extraordinary cultural and economic success story. As well as safeguarding and championing the interests of its members, the MPA also owns and operates subsidiary businesses (together known as The MPA Group), including the Mechanical Copyright Protection Society (MCPS) which is the UK collection society that licenses mechanical (or reproduction) copyrights on behalf of over 30,000 music publisher, songwriter, and composer members; and Printed Music Licensing Ltd (PMLL) which represents the rights of music publishers, issuing licences on their behalf to allow for the photocopying and arranging of sheet music as part of education and beyond.
About the Role
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Corporate / Legal Secretary plays an integral role in the day to day operation and administration of the MPA group of Companies, including in the planning, scheduling and minuting of all board and committee meetings; and supporting the overall management of the office.
Some of the key responsibilities include:
- Managing the administration for the Board and various Committees, including scheduling meetings, collating agendas and liaising with members.
- Accurate minute-taking for all Board and Committee meetings, in all cases drafting them promptly, detailing clear action points and distributing to the relevant stakeholders.
- Supporting, where required, the Chief Operating Officer to implement and communicate governance, risk management and compliance policies, processes and procedures.
- Providing effective management in relation to the office, including overseeing health and safety, managing equipment and stationery orders, and providing general administrative support to MPA employees as needed.
About you
Whilst previous experience within the Music Industry would be valued, we are keen to attract applicants from any sector and background. We’d like you to be able to demonstrate the following skills, experience and qualities:
- Proven ability in coordinating multiple meetings, and recording accurate, clear and concise meeting minutes
- Working effectively to deadlines, able to remain calm under pressure
- Organised, flexible and pro-active; able to multi-task and demonstrate a meticulous attention to detail.
- Articulate and able to liaise and influence at all levels – within the team, with Board Directors and external contacts ranging from service providers to politicians and Heads of Business.
- Must maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Computer proficient (MS Office suite particularly).
- An interest, knowledge or qualification in Company law and / or Governance is desirable
