We now wish to recruit a Graduate Design Engineer to work alongside our Projects and Manufacturing Manager to assist with the demands of our ever-growing client base. In particular, we want to talk to exceptional design engineers whose pride in their work is a measure of their skills and attitude.
The person:
You are a graduate in a relevant design or engineering discipline and a confident self-starter who is both a motivated individual and naturally acts as a team player by supporting your colleagues to meet goals. You take pride in your work and set high standards for yourself and others.
You are calm when deadlines must be met and have the drive to hit them, yet the trust and maturity to ask for help when you are faced with challenges.
You can work as part of a team or on your own, take direction and deliver on what you have agreed on.
You are an excellent communicator both written and verbally and are a good listener. You are organised and have excellent time management skills.
The Role
You will create and lead a design department, reporting directly to the Projects and Manufacturing Manager. You will deliver cost-effective detailed mechanical design solutions for new products and enhancements to existing products to the agreed technical requirements, timescales and budget. The designs could range from simple gantries to more advanced food machinery and equipment.
You will develop and evaluate designs based on the specifications of our customers, using Solidworks and Autocad, and will communicate these designs effectively to the manufacturing team. You will also assist in spec’ing jobs for our customers.
The successful candidate will undergo training and have ongoing support, not only from VSM, but from our academic partner, ATU Sligo, and will have the chance to work alongside experienced and highly knowledgeable academics who will guide the development of the project team at VSM. He/she will also be able to complete a fully funded post-graduate diploma in innovation management at Queen's University.
Essential Criteria
Relevant third level degree in Mechanical Engineering Design, Mechatronic Engineering or other relevant disciplines.
Minimum of 2 years engineering design and project management experience.
Competence in Solidworks and Autocad, including creating 2D and 3D drawings
An understanding of key engineering principals such as material selection, assembly techniques and manufacturing processes
Strong technical and problem-solving skills and ability to design cost effective solutions from specifications against agreed budget and timescale requirements.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly explain and present design solutions
Desirable Criteria
Good understanding of CE Marking.
Good understanding of quality in a manufacturing environment.
Six signa/lean manufacturing training.
