Learning Support Assistant – 24 hours per week

Position Summary

The Learning Support Assistant (LSA) will engage and support our most vulnerable learners by ensuring that effective support is in place to enable them to fulfil their potential. The LSA will take responsibility for agreed learning activities with individuals or groups under the guidance of delivery staff and will occasionally take responsibility for whole sessions where the primary focus will be to maintain good order and keep learners on task.

Position: Learning Support Assistant (2 Posts)

Responsible to: Team Lead

Hours: 24 hours per week (Monday – Thursday/Tuesday-Friday)

Contract: Non-temporary

Salary Range: £18,470.00 - £20,010.00 pro-rata

Location: Across our provisions, all roles are peripatetic and the LSA will be expected to commute between all Springboard locations due to the needs of the learners.

Leave: pro-rata 25 days per annum subject to local conditions, plus statutory holidays

Job Description

Springboard operates in a demanding and often changing environment. Members of staff must be flexible, adaptable and willing to face up to changing circumstances and new opportunities. Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

· Promote positive values, attitudes and good behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with established policy and encourage learners to take responsibility for their own behaviour

· To have knowledge and understanding of the complex needs of individual learners in order to successfully support them

· Promote independence and employ strategies to recognise and reward achievement of self-reliance, encouraging learners to take responsibility for their own behaviour

· Encourage learners to interact and work cooperatively with others and engage all learners in activities

· Provide information and advice to enable learners to make choices about their own learning/behaviour/attitude

· Establish productive working relationships with learners acting as a role model and setting high expectations

· Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all learners

· Provide feedback to learners in relation to progress and achievement

· Work with delivery, staff to establish an appropriate learning environment and agreed support plans

· Supervise learners on educational visits and experiences as required

· Liaise sensitively and effectively with parents/carers as agreed with the delivery officer and participate in feedback sessions/meetings with parents and carers

· Carry out duties in accordance with the quality systems and procedures currently in place throughout the organisation

· Ensure the operation of efficient and safe environments and perform with due regard for the health, safety and welfare all within the guidelines of Springboard’s Health and Safety Policy

· Promote and support equality and diversity through the charity’s equal opportunities policy

· Assist in marketing and promotion of Springboard programmes and services

· To undertake other such duties which are commensurate with the post as may be required from time to time, by the Chief Executive or other Springboard Managers

Person Specification

A relevant learner support/youth/ or educational qualification (or be working towards).

Experience of working in a youth/community/educational setting

Experience in supporting vulnerable young people with learning difficulties and emotional behavioural needs

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

The ability to promote learner’s independence

The ability to relate well to others

Ability to travel across all delivery locations

Desirable: Full and valid UK drivers licence
