The Company
RSR is a well-established developer and producer of medical diagnostics with key applications in autoimmune thyroid disease, type 1 diabetes mellitus, neuroimmunology and other autoimmune diseases. The company has a long history of cutting edge research in particular on the interaction between autoantigens and autoantibodies at the molecular level. These are presented at scientific meetings and published in scientific journals.
The Position
The Scientist will join a dynamic team working on projects related to autoimmune thyroid diseases, type 1 diabetes mellitus and neuroimmunological diseases at RSR's Laboratories in Cardiff. The successful candidate will work closely with colleagues on production of key reagents for manufacturing assay kits for detecting autoantibodies. The Scientist will collaborate with production teams to ensure the best performance and quality of the kits. The Scientist will be expected to join in Research and Development activities of the team. This will include improvements and adjustment to existing products, developing new assay systems, developing new technologies, in depth studies of the characteristics of the key reagents and the opportunity to join in collaborative projects with academic institutions and other organisations.
This is a full time, lab-based position for a scientist with excellent practical laboratory skills, a strong work ethic, attention to detail and interest in scientific advancements.
Main Responsibilities
- Design and preparation of protein expression constructs
- Expression and purification of recombinant proteins
- Characterisation of proteins using a wide range of biochemical methods
- Performing and analysing assays
- Designing strategies and working on new assay development
- Cooperating with team members and reporting to the Team Leader/Supervisor
- Cooperating with the production departments
- Complying with Quality Control standards
- Following Standard Operating Procedures
- Maintaining accurate records and preparation of reports
- Presentation of work at meetings (internal and external)
- Keeping up to date with the scientific literature
- Assisting in preparation of scientific publications
- Assisting in responding to customers' queries
- Maintaining a safe and healthy working environment and complying with Local Rules and Health and Safety rules/policies
- To be aware of and report all hazards, incidents and potential incidents relating to safety
Qualifications, Skills & Competencies
- Recent PhD in biochemistry, chemistry, biotechnology or a related subject
- Eligibility to work in the UK (essential)
- Excellent practical laboratory skills (essential)
- Experience in molecular biology, protein chemistry and bioanalytical methods
- High level of attention to detail
- Excellent organisational, planning and prioritisation skills
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn and succeed
- Ability to work in a team and cooperate with work colleagues
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Good interpersonal skills
- Experience with IT packages (especially Word, Excel and data processing software)
