It's an exciting time to be part of our team with all of our award-winning Continuing Dramas that brings audiences together week after week. From EastEnders, Doctors and Casualty to River City and Pobol y Cwm, our programmes remain a constant source of gripping entertainment, featuring cliff-hanger storylines and much-loved characters with whom our viewers have grown up.

Our Drama series is set in a busy Midlands practice following the turbulent lives and loves of the staff and patients.

The Doctors Editorial Team are at the heart of the drama offscreen! They work extremely hard in a busy environment to help bring the scripts to life. You will have the opportunity to learn and develop within an experienced Drama Editorial Office.

Main Responsibilities

The postholder will be solely responsible for the following duties:

  • To provide a highly efficient level of administrative support to the Editorial Team. The postholder will be responsible for the day to day running of the editorial office and be the first point of contact on behalf of the Exec/Series Producer
  • In conjunction with the Story Producer, to arrange all elements of Long Term story conferences and regular serial meetings as required. This includes complex diary co-ordination with internal and external attendees. To fully minute the story conferences and accurately transcribe within a short timescale
  • To attend, contribute to and transcribe regular storylining sessions
  • To maintain constantly changing diaries, organise and schedule meetings and conferences and associated information as appropriate
  • To prioritise all incoming correspondence, written and telephoned queries, from both internal and external sources, ensuring that confidentiality is maintained. To draft correspondence effectively, exercising initiative in responding independently to day-to-day email and administration
  • To take accurate minutes at Editorial/Production meetings and distribute accordingly
  • To be responsible for introducing new members of the Department to all other staff
  • To manage and update the Archive
  • To compile material for story conferences, including but not limited to, story material, clips of new characters’ material and character photographs as necessary
  • In conjunction with the Series Story Scheduler, monitor artist usage over the individual contractual periods
  • To manage workload effectively and assess priorities to meet conflicting deadlines, often at short notice and under pressure
  • To order hospitality as required, whilst being aware of the full extent of the financial and purchasing authority of the post and to ensure that this authority is being exercised in accordance with policy and the BBC financial agreements
  • To undertake any training necessary to update skills and knowledge, including health and safety related training
  • To provide cover for Research when required
Are you the right candidate?

To be successful in this role, you must be able to demonstrate:

  • Proven experience working in a highly demanding administrative role.
  • Excellent Inter-personal skills, with proven experience of diary management, office and IT packages (in particular, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook and databases)
  • Experience organising and attending complex conferences to include travel, hospitality and minute taking
  • Excellent telephone skills and the ability to manage (editorial and talent) contacts with tact and discretion
  • An understanding of, and the ability to handle highly confidential and commercially sensitive information with tact and sensitivity
  • Experience of establishing and maintaining office, filing and administration systems and the ability to communicate information effectively to a wide range of production and non-production personnel, internal and external to the BBC
  • An informed interest in television scripted drama and especially Doctors and knowledge of the administrative support required by the Production.
  • The ability to prioritise own and other’s workload
  • Resilience and stamina to sustain performance when under pressure from tight schedules, deadlines and conflicting priorities
  • The ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Proficient note-taking method and the ability to transcribe accurately in a timely manner
  • Sound command of English and the ability to format paperwork appropriately

**Please note that this is a standard Studios Production contract and potentially can involve up to 55 hours per week **
