The team is one of the largest Local Government purchasing functions, helping to manage the authority’s £1.6bn annual budget. We provide strategic leadership, direction, innovation and control across the full range of the Council's commissioning, procurement, contract and supplier management activities in order to deliver value for money and efficiency improvements, whilst ensuring continuity and quality of supply.

Taking on the role of Procurement & Supply Chain Specialist, the successful candidates will be supporting the Procurement & Supply Chain Managers. The role will include the development of routes to market, drafting tender documentation and commercial contracts, and in some roles there will be contract management activity.

What we can offer you:

  • You will be surrounded by a large team of knowledgeable and experienced colleagues, who are engaged and constructive
  • We have a collective desire to make improvements and do a good job, while realistic about challenges
  • You will have regular opportunities for meaningful discussion about current projects, with peers and colleagues at different levels
  • There are opportunities for progression, and we have supported many colleagues with their career progression
  • Regular development is encouraged – from formal qualifications to e-learning and webinars
  • We will trust and empower you to undertake your role, with support when needed
  • We offer genuine flexible working and understanding of the need for work / life balance – we are open to consider condensed hours or similar
  • Flexibility hybrid working (average 40% in the office) or to be office based
  • Option to purchase additional annual leave on top of a generous leave entitlement
  • Annual salary progression
  • Applications from internal candidates interested in a secondment opportunity are welcomed – gain some valuable new skills and knowledge to take back to your role, or those who are interested in a career change.

We are recruiting two temporary roles, one full time (37 hours per week to December 2023) and one part time temporary role covering maternity leave (22.2 hours per to August 2023).

We are investing in our workforce and are promoting opportunities to our under-represented groups. We value equality, diversity and inclusion and are focused on increasing the diversity of our workforce, particularly the number of Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic, Disabled and LGBTQ+ people, so that our teams reflect the communities in the city we serve. We are also supporting staff with unpaid caring responsibilities to work flexibly.

It is a great time to join us and we welcome your application.

Under the Disability Confident Scheme, disabled applicants, who meet the essential criteria of this job, are guaranteed an interview.
