Job Description

Do you have a passion for Critical Care? Are you a natural leader who can inspire others while striving for the best care possible? If so we would love to hear from you.

Due to the expansion of our Critical Care services and bed capacity we are looking for an exceptional candidate to complete Critical Care services as part of BHRUT. As a new position this is an opportunity to help shape the direction of one of the largest ITU facilties in North East London.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a large multiple site Critical Care Unit providing care across both Queens Hospital with a specialist Neuro ITU and two general ITUs as well as our King George Site with both an elective and general ITU facility. Under the guidance of the lead nurse for critical care, the successful candidate will lead a fully established team of four deputy matrons, providing operational support as well as assisting in the strategic direction of an essential service. The role is a mixture of clinical responsibilities with managerial responsibility with a strong focus on delivering first class resuscitation training and ensuring the quality and safety of effective resuscitation and escalation of some of our most dependent and vulnerable patients. This role will focus upon both the day to day delivery of services as well as the strategic delivery of a sustainable training programme and staff for the expansion of the Trust sites.

The postholder will provide professional and management leadership to all nursing staff within BHRUT Critical Care. The Matron will work across organisational boundaries to achieve the Trust’s objectives, and to deliver relevant local, regional and national standards and strategies. In conjunction with key stakeholders the postholder will lead and develop the Critical Care across both sites with anticipated increase in bed numbers and complexity.

Under the leadership of our Chair, Jacqui Smith and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive we provide care for the residents of three diverse London boroughs. More than half of our 7,500 strong workforce are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups and most live in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge. We also provide healthcare services to people in south west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.

Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals, operating from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic and Harold Wood Polyclinic.

As we recover from Covid-19, we’re proud to be leading the way in reducing the time our patients wait to get the treatment they need. The pandemic provided the drive for our teams to innovate and change.

We know we have more work to do to improve waiting times for urgent and emergency care, and this will be one of the many benefits of our closer collaboration with Barts Health. Working with them and with all our partners across north east London, we will find a sustainable solution to enhance patient care.

We are particularly proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre; Radiotherapy Centre; Hyper Acute Stroke Unit; and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital. We’re also pleased to be part of the NEL Cancer Alliance.
