We’re looking for an exceptional Climate Scientist - Foundation Scientist to help us make a difference to our planet. You'll join a time that embraces a hybrid pattern of homeworking and at Exeter HQ.

You'll be part of the UK Science into Services Team in Programmes where we maintain, support and carry out work to improve the delivery of the UK Climate Projections climate service. As a member of the team, you’ll be contributing a key Met Office climate service that underpins the UK efforts for adapting to climate change including the UK Climate Change Risk Assessment and the National Adaptation Programme.

Your work will include user engagement to support them on their way to understand how to use climate information and to explore with them how we could improve the existing services. You'll also be carrying out scientific analysis to deliver novel solutions that inform real-world decisions.

Job description

As our Climate Scientist - Foundation Scientist , the key duties are:

  • Engagement with users of the UK Climate Projections to understand their needs and how best to meet them.
  • Delivering useful and usable information and products for the UK Climate Projections audience.
  • Working with the wider Met Office as well as independently to carry out scientific analysis that underpins the information provided to users on the UK Climate Projections.

Essential Qualifications, Skills & Abilities:

  • We keep evolving – Good understanding of climate science with a good undergraduate degree in climate, meteorology or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated drive to deliver high quality output in a timely fashion through effective planning and creation of solutions to overcome obstacles.

Benefits

As our Climate Scientist - Foundation Scientist , your starting salary will be £24146.00 and you will have opportunities to progress to £26641.00 over time. New joiners to the Met Office will start on the salary band minima.

Your total reward package is potentially worth up to £34000.00 annually, which includes basic salary, potential corporate bonus and employer pension contributions.
