Job Description
As a Down House Visitor Assistant, you will join an amazing team of employees and volunteers, making sure visitors have a great time from the moment they arrive until they say goodbye. This is a varied role and some days will be busy from start to finish, whereas others may be quieter especially on the wetter days! No two days are the same.
At Down House you can help us bring the story of the Darwin family to life by assisting our visitors with important information about their visit. You will be able to step in to the study where Darwin penned his groundbreaking book 'On the Origin of Species' and take a walk in Darwins footsteps down his 'thinking path' the sandwalk during part of your daily duties.
You will be based in the hub of our site at the admissions and retail point, helping ensure our visitors get the most out of their visit whilst helping care for this incredible family home alongside a wonderful team.
Providing a warm welcome to all of our visitors is key to this role so you will be confident in talking with people from all walks of life. You can really help our visitors get the most out of their day. You will be responsible for maintaining excellent standards of services as well as optimising opportunities to generate income. You will have excellent communication skills and enjoy working with both visitors and colleagues.
This role is for 15 hours per week, including weekend and bank holidays. During the winter months the contract will reduce to 0 hours, but there will be occasional weekend work available. Flexibility in availability is crucial for this role.
