2026222A3-R
You will join our vibrant team of over 50 researchers focusing on the field of Silicon Photonics, based at the Optoelectronics Research Centre, working on the design, fabrication and characterisation of state-of-the-art silicon photonic devices to work on an industrially funded project in the area of LiDAR. You will interact with the industry sponsor Pointcloud Inc. to perform pioneering research into novel silicon photonic devices and circuits that will go into future generations of 3D imaging hardware.
The project will be supervised by Professor Graham Reed and Professor David Thomson who have a strong, internationally renowned track record in silicon photonics, and will involve significant interaction with the industry team.
To be successful you must have experience in the design of photonic devices and the use of relevant modelling techniques such as Lumerical (MODE, FDTD and DEVICE) and Photon design. Experience in mask layout including the use of software such as L-edit is also required. You will demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of the characterisation techniques of planar photonic devices and the fabrication of semiconductor devices. Experience or knowledge in silicon photonics and free space optics would be advantageous, as would experience in process development and fabrication of semiconductor devices. You will hold a PhD or equivalent qualification related to photonics.
Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
The post is being offered on a full-time, fixed-term basis, for up to 15 months in duration.
