Full Time (10 PA's) Specialty Doctor in Acute Medicine plus 2 additional PA's for the on call element.
Assist Acute Physician in the care of acute medical take patients from GPs or Emergency Department
The post holder is responsible for the admission, clerking and day-to-day care of patients on the IAC (Integrated Assessment Centre), the Emergency Department (medical referrals) and Acute Medical Short Stay Unit, as required.
Independent ward rounds on AMU where consultant post-take complete
Participating in Ambulatory and/or Acute Medicine outpatients clinics with consultant supervision
Performing practical procedures and supervising/teaching practical procedures for junior trainees
Expediting and acting upon investigations
Assisting in the facilitation of early discharge where appropriate
Perform relevant clinical tasks to facilitate discharge e.g. completing Electronic Discharge form Participation in the teaching rota for the department
Participation in departmental audit/QI
Opportunities to gain experience in the areas of the Acute Medicine consultants' special interest where rota allows
Teaching of medical and physician associate students Other appropriate duties and responsibilities
This is a consultant led 48-bedded unit that serves as an acute short stay ward. With direct referrals from the Integrated Assessment Centre (IAC), some direct GP referrals and short stay patients from the Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit. There is a dedicated multidisciplinary team that ensures rapid, safe treatment and discharge or transfer of patients. There are 30-40 medical referrals to Acute Medicine every 24 hours with a 40-60% discharge rate due to the combined efforts of the multidisciplinary team and other in-house and community services that support discharges. An Operations Centre supports the department.
