Job Description
CGG is looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, talented and highly motivated Senior Geoscience Data Scientist to join our Geoscience R&D team!
Our Geoscience R&D group is a new and expanding team within CGG Geoscience, consisting of talented Geoscience Data Scientists, Senior Research Scientists, ML Engineers and Software Developers. We work alongside multi-disciplinary geoscientists to provide innovative solutions to our clients challenging problems within the energy sector. By joining us you will play a vital role in the continual development of our digital transformation tools and our geoscience analytic techniques.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the development and implementation of new technologies and workflows to extract, transform, load, manipulate, explore, analyse, report, and visualise data for operational and legacy projects. You will work on projects to assist with data identification, inventory, extraction, transformation and database loading and will also develop, manage and apply ETL tools, scripts and database systems for geoscience data. As a more experienced member of the team, you shall also help shape the future direction and implementation of such tools, as well as providing mentorship to more junior team members.
Principal Accountabilities
Working in the Geology R&D Team, your key responsibilities with the Geology and wider Technology teams include supporting the development and implementation of new technologies and workflows for operational and legacy projects. In brief:

Data engineering: You will have ‘data wrangling’ experience and will work on projects to assist with data identification, inventory, extraction, transformation and database loading and will also develop, manage and apply ETL tools, scripts and database systems for geoscience data. Experience of SQL is beneficial.

Programming, computer science and statistical analysis: Experienced user in at least one programming language (Python is preferable). Proven experience to statistically analyse multiple data types.

Git: Experience with Git version control for storing and deploying code into projects.

Visualisation: Ability to create reports and/or dashboard visualisations

Mentoring: Mentor, develop and provide guidance and develop more junior members of the team

AGILE: Experience performing projects within AGILE (SCRUM or Kanban) project management.
This role has a flexible location; you can either be based in one of our hub locations in the UK (North Wales or Crawley)

Qualifications
Qualifications and Experience
You are likely to be educated to a degree level in either computer science, data science or similar but a combination of education and experience will be considered.
You will be experienced at working with data, data processes, software and databases. Knowledge of geological sciences is useful but not essential.
Preferred Skills

Advanced problem-solving skills, especially focussed on finding solutions to data workflow, consistency, loading and output problems

Passion for computers, software, technology, and digitalising and improving workflows

Working knowledge of Python, R, or similar high-level general purpose and statistically-focussed programming languages

Familiarity with databases and SQL/Oracle

Familiarity with creating data pipelines to both load data and create/interrogate data already databased.

Excellent data visualisation skills

Ability to create interactive dashboards (e.g. plotly/dash, Tableau, Power BI, Spotfire)

Proficiency to design, build, test and support innovation solutions

The ability to define and manage project deadlines

To keep all stakeholders regularly informed on progress

An enthusiastic attitude towards learning and flexibility to adapt to new challenges or changes in direction
