Job Description
Fistula Foundation
We are demonstrating to the world that a new approach to women’s health can change the trajectory of women’s lives and have a profound impact on local communities. An estimated one million women in Africa and Asia suffer from obstetric fistula, a debilitating childbirth injury that leaves a woman incontinent and, as a result, too often abandoned by her family and shunned by her community. Surgery is the only cure, which we deliver through partners in 25 countries across Africa and Asia. Since 2009, we have provided more than 75,000 free, life-transforming surgeries to women in need.
Fistula Foundation combines the dynamism of a lean startup with the stability of a mature organization. We have earned Charity Navigator’s four-star rating for 16 consecutive years, Charity Watch lists us as one of only 34 Top Rated International Organizations, and GuideStar has awarded us Platinum Participant status - the highest designation available to charities. We have also earned the recognition of leaders such as Pulitzer Prize winner Nicholas Kristof, Grammy winner Paul Simon, and internationally renowned ethicist Peter Singer.
The Opportunity
We seek a Philanthropy Associate who is eager to work closely with and support the Senior Director of Philanthropy and CEO as they engage with FF’s most generous donors through the stages of cultivating, soliciting, closing, and stewarding major gifts. Our ideal candidate will possess strong communications and project management skills and is comfortable working in an entrepreneurial culture where teamwork is crucial for effectively coordinating deadlines and workstreams. The capacity and desire to directly manage a portfolio of donors and step into a donor-facing role in the future would be a strength.

We expect to provide valuable experience and opportunities for career growth in this position. The title, scope of responsibilities, and salary are somewhat flexible based on the candidate’s skills and experience. If you are an extraordinarily qualified candidate, please do not hesitate to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide project management and communications support for the Fistula Foundation major gifts program.

- Provide logistical and administrative support for events and travel programs.
- Regularly track and report on major gift program metrics.
- Respond to special requests from the Senior Director of Philanthropy and CEO.
- Potential to directly manage a portfolio of donors.
Ideal Candidate
- At least 2-3 years of nonprofit, communications, or project management experience.
- Excellent communications skills, both written and oral; ability to clearly and concisely articulate Fistula Foundation’s work and influence potential and existing donors.
- Passion for international development and commitment to advancing the status of women around the world.
- Ability to quickly and positively react to new opportunities as they arise while managing existing and competing priorities.
- Able to work independently, but skilled at considering the needs and time constraints of multiple stakeholders for projects that will involve working across teams.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (particularly Excel) required; experience with SalesForce and/or Raiser’s Edge preferred. Fast study of other technology platforms.
