What you’ll do:
Specialising in Traffic Signals, the Apprentice Engineer will learn how to undertake reactive and planned maintenance on all Roadside Technology equipment in your area. You will be shown how to liaise with either the TOC (Technology Operations Centre) and/or the area Lead Engineer, who will allocate faults, inspections, and maintenance schedules.
Some of your main responsibilities are below:

You will work to gain the knowledge and application of current Traffic Signal technologies, standards, specifications, standards, and best practice relating to National Highways Motorway and trunk road communications systems.

You will gain knowledge and experience of other technology equipment such as CCTV and Message Signs.
- Familiarise yourself with the escalation process reporting to the TOC/Lead Engineer/Service Delivery Manager or nominated deputy as required.
- Learn about legislation and the importance of Risk Assessments and Method Statements.

Support and learn how to complete all technology maintenance tasks as determined by the Service Delivery Manager and/or Lead Engineer.
- You will learn how to deal with emergency faults, knock downs and carry out corrective maintenance including the reinstatement of sites, cable and equipment damaged by others.
- Learn and report on how to recognise and raise site QEHS issues within the team.
- You will learn how to close faults through ServiceNow (or other Fault Management System) in a timely manner.
- Comply with Telent and client QEH&S and security policies.
- Understand and comply with Telent’s policies including use of vehicle, laptop, and mobile phone.
- You will attend training and develop skills relating to Traffic Signal & Roadside Technology fault finding and repair.
Who you are & what to prepare for:

This role involves working at heights, working outdoors, both day and night work and travelling across different regions across the UK.
- We don’t require individuals with experience as we will provide full training in all aspects of the role from how to use tools/equipment to working at heights. We are looking for Apprentices with the right attitude, commitment, and desire to learn.
- You will get a vehicle, mobile phone, laptop, and personal protective equipment (PPE) as part of this role.
Programme requirements:

Minimum of 5 GCSE's Grade 4 or higher (or equivalent qualification). This must include Maths, English and a Science or IT based subject.
- Must be eligible to work in the UK.
- Full UK Driving Licence with a minimum of 3 months driving experience (Ideally clean with no penalties).

Must be over the age of 18 by September 2023.

Able to adhere to our Drugs & Alcohol policy and pass a pre-employment Drugs & Alcohol assessment.
Programme Specifics:

This apprenticeship is typically 24 months in duration.

Starting salary of £16,000 which will increase throughout the duration of the programme.

The qualification you gain will be a Level 3 in Information Communications Technician.

Our chosen training provider InteQual will support you in obtaining your qualification.

You will be predominantly field based with office and college visits as required.

On completion of your apprenticeship, we hope to offer you a full-time position with Telent where you can continue to pursue your career.
