Job Description
Renishaw's CMM and Gauging Products Division has an opening for a Design Development Engineer to work within the Current Products Team. Working closely with the Technical Manager, immediate colleagues and cross-functional teams including quality, purchasing, manufacturing, materials specialists, assembly lines and the supply chain, the successful candidate will carry out a wide-ranging role, addressing issues across the full CMM current product range.
Responsibilities
Resolve real product issues identified both internally by our process partners or through customer returns
Be a team member of, and lead product design and process (manufacturing & assembly) continuous improvement activities to mitigate future quality or supply chain risk whilst realising efficiency gains and cost reduction where possible
Assist with the transfer of the latest Renishaw CMM products from the New Product Development teams to the Current Product team and from low volume nursery cells to high volume production facilities
Ensure products conform to the latest regulatory guidelines, with support from the internal Compliance team
Work on multiple projects simultaneously and allocate time appropriately
Key requirements
All applicants are to be degree qualified in a relevant engineering, mathematics or science discipline, or have significant, relevant industrial background.
Desirable requirements
Although not essential it would be desirable for applicants to have some experience with:
Industry standard risk management, project management, problem solving and root cause methodologies
CAD, ideally Siemens NX and Teamcenter
Product verification; compilation of verification plans, execution of activities, reporting of results and conclusions
Technical report writing
Business systems and processes required in an engineering and manufacturing company, for example PLM
FEA, particularly Ansys
A UK driving licence, as travel to other sites will be required
Person specification
The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a practical approach to design, supported by good problem-solving skills and attention to detail. They will be self-motivated with a hands-on attitude to develop both products and processes. The individual in this role will have demonstrable organisational skills; able to forward-plan, prioritise tasks and co-ordinate the work of others. They will be capable of solving technical problems, making design recommendations based on firm evidence. Furthermore, they will have excellent communication skills and will be able to enlist the support of others when required.
Location
The role is based at the New Mills site near Wotton under Edge, Gloucestershire. However, occasional visits to all Gloucestershire manufacturing sites will be required.
