Together, we can beat cancer.
At Varian, a Siemens Healthineers Company, we bring together the world's best talent to realize our vision of a world without fear of cancer. Together, we work passionately to develop and deliver easy-to-use, efficient oncology solutions.
We are part of an incredible community of scientists, clinicians, developers, researchers, professionals, and skilled specialists pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, to improve people’s lives around the world. We embrace a culture of inclusivity in which the power and potential of every individual can be unleashed. We spark ideas that lead to positive impact and continued success.
If you want to be part of this important mission, we want to hear from you.
As a member of the Medical Affairs Team, you will prepare and negotiate agreements that govern Varian’s grants to partners, in support of investigator-initiated research activities. These negotiations involve academic institutions, hospitals, clinics and similar partners. You will work with personnel in Medical Affairs and Legal, as well as external legal counsel, to prepare such agreements.

This role requires the ability to juggle the demands of multiple priorities/tasks with a high-level attention to detail. Roles requires focus on successful negotiation of research agreements, maintenance of a contract repository, while ensuring that Varian meets its ongoing obligations. This will involve a significant amount of cross-functional team coordination, through meetings and progress tracking to bring contracts to completion, both on time and within budget.
Responsibilities:
  • Negotiating research agreements and handling highly complex technical and legal discussions.
  • Managing the contract life cycle, including supporting contracts through negotiation, signature, uploading to the contracts database and managing the renewal process.
  • Managing multiple simultaneous contract negotiations while prioritizing appropriately and driving those negotiations to conclusion.
  • Uploading and managing meta data fields of signed agreements in Microsoft Teams, SteepRock, Apptus/Unity (Salesforce), or similar contract management tools or platforms.
  • Developing internal processes for tracking intake of contract requests and deadlines.
  • Identifying and developing process improvements and serving as the subject matter expert on templates, process and systems used in the contract life cycle.
  • Coordinating with team members in the United States
This role requires a customer service mindset, close attention to detail and the ability to quickly understand client requests and Varian’s research strategy, to intelligently respond to contract change requests and finalize such requests.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelors of Law Degree required (although legal practice not necessarily required)
  • Contracts management experience in a corporate, academic, or hospital in-house legal department, or at a law firm.
  • Proven ability to organize and maintain complex contract processes and documentation.
  • Experience or ability to learn shared file platform (Microsoft Teams); grant application management software with contracting module (SteepRock); contracts management software (Apptus in Salesforce); and electronic signature system (Adobe Sign).
  • Excellent organizational, writing, and negotiation skills; close attention to detail.
  • Ability to quickly understand and handle time-sensitive requests, prioritize and multi-task with minimal supervision, escalate when appropriate, and generate quality work product in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to client service and finding creative solutions.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Desire to work in a collaborative and team-oriented environment.
  • Willingness to adapt to evolving business and legal environments.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
