Come and join the friendly team in Paediatric Theatres at the Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital in Brighton.
We have three operating theatres offering General surgery, ENT, Orthopaedics, Max Fax, endoscopy, Urology, Dental, and Opthalmic services.
We run a 24/7 service, with participation in the departmental out of hours on-call service a necessity.
We currently have three Band 5 Theatre Practitioner roles vacant.
We can offer varying degrees of flexibility with each post in terms of hours/shift pattern/length of contract.
All three posts are initially for a fixed term period of a year, but can be extended for the ideal candidates.
We can offer, support and development in all areas of theatre, including scrub, anaesthetics, and recovery.
Theatre experience is desirable but not essential as we can offer training and support
- To provide and assist with the development of safe and high quality peri-operative patient care and to work within the guidelines of the Trust Nursing and Midwifery Strategy.
- To provide information and support to patients having anaesthesia / surgery.
To provide clinical support and teaching to all relevant personnel within the specialist area.
- To provide technical and clinical advise to relevant colleagues in the peri-operative setting.

MANAGEMENT / ORGANISATIONAL
1. Ensure that accurate records and information systems are maintained.
2. Ensure the safe control, custody and administration of all drugs within the peri-operative area in accordance with Trust Policies and national legislation.
3. Assist the Team Leader to ensure that patient care reflects the departmental philosophy.
4. Ensure that due regard is given to the customs, values and spiritual beliefs of patients / clients and colleagues and equal opportunities are practised
5. Inform Team Leader/Clinical Theatre Manager if there is a change in circumstance, which may affect safe and competent practice.
6. Assist the Team Leader to actively lead in the development of their specialised areas within the peri-operative services.
7. Assist the Team Leader/Senior Theatre Practitioner to ensure self and others attend mandatory training sessions as required.
8. Able to demonstrate relevant IT and keyboard skills to enable electronic data collection and communication.
9. Effectively communicate with all disciplines, patients/clients and relatives.
10. Ensure incident records are completed and acted upon and the manager is informed accordingly.
11. Assist senior staff, and occasionally in their absence, manage the team under pressure and, at times, in a highly stressful environment, including emergency situations.

Posts in the Trust are subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for disclosure to be made of the Criminal Records Bureau to check for any previous criminal spent and unspent convictions, reprimands and cautions.
