Data Analyst Apprentice – New Scientist

Location: Kensington, London - W8 5TT

Contract: Permanent

Salary: £21,000 per annum

Job Introduction

We are New Scientist

New Scientist is the world's most popular weekly science and technology publication. Their website, app and print editions cover international news from a scientific standpoint, and ask the big-picture questions about life, the universe and what it means to be human.

You will have the opportunity at New Scientist to support the management of customer data and developing the analytics capabilities to help New Scientist understand and grow the business. The role will focus on supporting the marketing team with data management and insights across all New Scientist products.


Main Responsibilities

  • Data collection, analysis and tracking of all live campaigns
  • Providing insight into campaign performance and reporting back into your team and to clients
  • Identifying areas to increase efficiency and automation of processes
  • Using data to help the team with forecasting and planning
  • Marketing data management for campaigns with segment creation, list management and monitoring of automated data feeds and integrations, create reports and provide data-led solutions for campaign optimisation
  • Supporting every aspect of the customer journey and ensuring that campaigns are tracked and can be reported on to monitor performance and inform decision making
  • Working with the Tech team to develop the analytics solutions and infrastructure
  • Forecast modelling of subscription acquisition and retention, across all products and territories
  • Identifying patterns and trends and make recommendations to improve business sales, revenue and other relevant KPIs
  • Providing reporting and insights on performance data and analytics such as traffic, engagement, and conversion
  • Supporting the marketing team with actionable analysis in delivery of acquisition and retention objectives

You will need the following skills:

  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills
  • Knowledge of data analysis tools - you don't need to know all of them at entry level, but you should show advanced skills in Excel
  • Knowledge of data modelling, data cleansing, and data enrichment techniques
  • Ability to mine and analyse large datasets and to draw conclusions relevant to business objectives
  • Basic knowledge of Google Analytics or other web analytics
  • The capacity to develop and document procedures and workflows
  • The ability to carry out data quality control, validation and merging
  • An understanding of data protection issues
  • An awareness and knowledge of industry-specific databases and data sets
  • Experience of statistical methodologies and data analysis techniques
  • The ability to produce clear graphical representations and data visualisations
  • Positive, energetic, can-do attitude – a problem solver that is naturally inquisitive

Entry requirements:

Standard entry:

  • Level 3 qualification (apprenticeship/A-levels/BTEC, etc)
  • OR equivalent work experience (typically two years in a relevant role)

Plus:

  • 5 GCSEs, including English and Maths at Grade 4 (C) or above
  • Experience with using Excel and Microsoft products (or similar)

You may also have a combination of qualifications and experience which demonstrate the minimum foundation needed for the programme. In this instance you could still be considered for the programme.

If you hold international equivalents of the above qualifications, at the time of your application you must be able to provide an official document that states how your international qualifications compare to the UK qualifications.
