Job Description

Hertfordshire Fisheries is a highly successful, long standing, family-owned independent pet retailer. Specialising in aquatics and reptiles, we offer an extensive range of products to cater for all customers.

We are seeking a friendly and enthusiastic individual to join our experienced team of pet care professionals. We have a full time vacancy working across all department, the role involves working in both indoor and outdoor environments and working alternate weekends.

Key responsibilities

Customer service – help and advise customers on all aspects of pond and aquarium maintenance, fish and plant health, filtration methods and installation, reptile care and maintenance.

Livestock - to care for and animal and plant livestock to the highest standard, maintain fish and reptile housing, and cleaning of aquatic plant displays, health checking and daily record keeping.

Stock Maintenance – receiving of deliveries and entering stock on epos system. Cleaning and maintenance of display stock, ponds, aquariums and store environment. Ensuring stock is kept topped up and displayed correctly.

Till Service – to process transactions through the till in an efficient and accurate manner.

Ideal candidates must have

· Strong customer service skills.

· A highly motivated attitude towards work.

· Proficient retail skills ideally within the pet care industry.

· An in-depth knowledge of fish health and welfare.

· An advanced knowledge of pond and aquarium filtration, construction and instillation, and water quality and fish care.

. A basic knowledge of reptile and amphibian care.

· Till experience.

· The ability to cope under pressure and multitask.

· The ability to work alone or as part of a team.

· Good maths and IT skills.

· Strong organisational skills.

· The capacity to undertake own research and improve knowledge.

Additional advantages

Possession of or be studying a relevant animal care qualification.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: £6.83-£10.50 per hour
