Are you a good communicator and listener and do you understand the importance of good antenatal care for a safe and healthy pregnancy? If yes, we have an exciting new role for a Social Prescribing Link worker.
This role supports expectant mothers from BAME communities to make effective use of health care during their pregnancy. This will include understanding cultural and language differences which affect women’s understanding and/or use of antenatal care.
With the support of community midwives you will work with expectant mothers from BAME communities to help develop a maternity care plan that is specific to their needs. You will also visit pregnant women and assess any additional support needs.
You will help Bedford Hospital Maternity Services and the General Practices to understand what is needed to improve outcomes for mothers and babies from BAME women and families.
This is a 12 month pilot programme, with potential to extend
Please see full job description attached:
It is vital that you are interested in people and a good listener.
A background in social prescribing would be an advantage but is not essential. You should have a good understanding of how cultural and language issues affect women’s use of healthcare.
The ability to communicate in one or more minority languages (Bengali, Urdu, Gujrati) would be an advantage.
You should be organised and have excellent written and oral communication skills.
You must be willing to travel across the Bedford area and meet women and families in their own homes or other community setting
This post is jointly sponsored by East Bedford Primary Care Network and Bedford Hospital Maternity Services. The area covered includes the GP surgeries of Putnoe Medical Centre, Linden Road Surgery, London Road Surgery and Cauldwell Medical Practice.
