Job Description

About the Role

East Norfolk Medical Practice based in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk is seeking a GP to grasp the rare opportunity to join its fully resourced clinical team. Due to retirement planning we are looking for applicants to join us as a (full-time/part-time) partner or salaried GP, from 1st July 2023, although this date is flexible for the right candidate(s). If partnership is your preferred option, there may be the opportunity to invest in property, but this is not a requirement.

Successful candidates will look after personal patient lists working alongside a physician associate, paramedic or advanced nurse practitioner.

You will join a supportive, caring, collaborative and innovative clinical team of 18 GPs (16 of them Partners), 4 physician associates, 5 paramedics and 4 advanced nurses. The GP team range from GPs who have relatively recently qualified to those with 30+ years’ experience. Monthly meetings with a GP mentor will be offered as will bi-weekly clinical governance and educational meetings.

A full time GP works eight clinical sessions per week less any time required to carry out special interests. You will be encouraged to pursue your non-core interests to benefit both you and ENMP. GPs at ENMP currently perform several roles, including medical student education, GP trainee supervision, homeless care lead, GP associate at community provider, PCN Clinical Director, other PCN lead roles, Caldicott Guardian, appraiser, ICB clinical advisor roles, minor surgery and contraception fitting and removal.

About the Candidate

Do you enjoy working collaboratively, being supported by, and supporting others? Do you think about what might be possible in Primary Care, rather than sigh about how things currently are?
Do you value the core principles of traditional general practice but seek to apply them in today’s world?
Do you want to be part of a large team of caring GPs? Are you willing to put the Team before your own interests?

If you have answered yes to the above and you are a qualified GP or a GP soon to be qualified, then we would like to talk with you.

About Us

ENMP cares for 32,000 patients across five sites in Great Yarmouth and Caister on Sea, Norfolk. Despite being only three miles apart, ENMP serves a very diverse population across those sites, ranging from a largely retired population in a village location to one of the most deprived wards in the country in central Great Yarmouth.
“If the rate of change on the outside exceeds the rate of change on the inside, the end is near” – a quote from Jack Welch which guides our way of working. In line with this ENMP was the first practice to establish an urgent care team, composed of physician associates, paramedics and advanced nurses. We were a development site under the national Primary Care Home programme (the forerunner to Primary Care Networks) and we were the first practice to pilot social prescribing in our region. These are now thoroughly embedded in our system. More recently, roles provided through the PCN ARRS, including MSK, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and care coordinators also became part of our core system. We were the first practice in our region to run Hep C services in our buildings rather than hospital. We were the first practice we know of to run Tai Chi sessions for our patients suffering with chronic pain.

We are here to provide the best care we can to all our population and help to reduce the difference in life expectancy between the poorest and most affluent parts of our Practice area.

We teach all five years of University of East Anglia (UEA) medical students (as well as students from other universities) and train up to four registrars at any one time.

ENMP has held the contract to provide enhanced care to the homeless population since 2016 and are members of the Faculty of Homeless and Inclusion Health. More recently we have taken on the care for asylum seekers in our area and the contract for enhanced access. We also led the COVID vaccination initiative, working with our local hospital to ensure that covid vaccinations were provided for all local patients.

We were recognised by the CQC for providing outstanding care to older people and vulnerable people. The Practice and members of the team are award winning having won the RCGP East Anglia Practice Team of the Year 2014, Practice Nurse of the Year 2015, the Primary Care Awards Practice Nurse of the Year and Integration Inspiration Award 2015 and the RCGP East Anglia Practice Team of the Year 2019.

Recently our GPs were asked why they work at ENMP. This is what they said

"Very supportive practice where most are partners (rather than salaried) by choice"

"I joined ENMP because it was involved in an area that I was passionate about. I have been supported and facilitated to develop the service as I hoped. You get to do that at ENMP, the management and the ethos of the practice is excellent"

"It’s a family feeling"

"Stability through forward thinking"

"High earning"

"Opportunity to pursue special interests"

"Personal lists "

The fact that so many of our registrars (eleven) have stayed with us (ten of whom moved on to partnership) is the best recommendation we can give you to pick up the phone to arrange an informal discussion.

Please contact Jonathan Knights, Managing Partner on 07809 573450.

With beautiful beaches, the Norfolk Broads and the historic cathedral city of Norwich on your doorstep but within easy reach of London, what are you waiting for......
