Clarks has been defining retail fashion for almost 200 years. Just because our brand has an amazing history, though, doesn’t mean we’re not looking to the future. And when it comes to the future of footwear trends, we’re shaping it. Right now, we’re looking for a Colour Trend & Material Designer to join our Mens team who will help ensure that our brand continues to define footwear fashion.
The role
Sitting within the Creative & Technical function, you’ll research emerging footwear trends and work with the Design team to turn them into innovative styles that are unmistakably ours. You’ll create seasonal stories that bring to life mood, colour, materials and key silhouettes and inspire our designers’ most innovative work.
Highly visible within the design function, you’ll collaborate with colleagues across the business to ensure we choose the correct materials at the right cost. You’ll also be responsible for creating seasonal toolkits for colour, texture and finish to promote alignment across ranges, including for Essential, Premium and Kids categories. For you, Special Make-Up (SMU) requests will be an opportunity to form new collaborative partnerships.
Whether you’re supporting CAD design, developing and distributing seasonal colour palettes or making a lively contribution to meetings and presentations, you’ll have a real impact on the styles we produce. Want to make a name for yourself in footwear design? Join our world-renowned team.
About you
You might have a degree in Industrial Design. If not, you’ll have significant experience in colour, leather and non-leather material design that developed your creative and technical skills including 2D and, ideally, 3D CAD rendering. You’ll also be highly proficient with Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office and design packages including Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.
It’s just as important that you fit in with the way we work at Clarks. You’ll be a role model for us —an excellent communicator, highly organised and able to take the initiative without waiting for direction. That’s how you’ll make the Creative & Technical function a smarter and more productive place where you’ll be able fulfil your creative potential.
About Clarks
Clarks, based in Somerset, England, has been at the forefront of innovative shoemaking since its foundation in 1825, when brothers James and Cyrus Clark made a slipper from sheepskin off-cuts. At the time it was ground-breaking: a combination of invention and craftsmanship that has remained at the heart of what the brand does now. In the Clarks archive of more than 22,000 pairs are shoes that have sparked revolutions and defined generations. From the original Clarks Desert Boot, first designed by Nathan Clark and launched in 1950, to the iconic Wallabee, each design has an instantly recognisable signature that makes it unmistakably Clarks.
This season, we’re proud to introduce the Clarks Collective: five incredible activists championing authentic social change. From mental health awareness and LGBTQ+ rights to greater racial equality, these trailblazers are committed to creating a brighter future for us all – bringing to life Clarks’ new global campaign, For the World Ahead. Through spotlighting their stories and supporting their chosen charities and initiatives, we’re ready to lead the way. After all, we’re originators, not imitators. It’s who we are, who we’ve always been. And to change the world of tomorrow, we’re doing things differently today.
