The Team
The London Student Support Manager is a new role and will join a growing team in London in a new campus delivering some new ideas to our London students. York St John in London are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the team. The purpose of the role is to enhance the student support the London students receive and improve the student experience showing commitment to the provision of high-quality support to students and enhance the integration of international students into University life.
The Role
There are three main aspects to this role, the first being delivering a successful London Student Support Skills Programme which supports international students in adapting to life in UK universities with particular focus on English as an Academic Language. This programme will also cover topics like UK academic customs and regulations, support in referencing etc. The London Student Support Manager role will develop and deliver the content for this programme, and manage the programme throughout the year.
The second main aspect of this role is to manage the Academic Tutoring Support Programme. This involves ensuring; that all students have an academic tutor, all academic tutors have training and the skill set to tutor students, the Tutoring Support Programme is operated as effectively as possible and that all students and academics are supported throughout.
The third aspect of this role is to be the point of contact for pastoral support at the London Campus. The role will be work closely with the Wellbeing Team in York to signpost and refer students to them, but having the role as a 'go to' point for students with wellbeing needs in London.
The role will manage a team of professional support staff to achieve the above support for students. The post holder will be responsible for the line management and the development both professional and personally of the team. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting team objectives and ensuring these are delivered.
This is a new position with the role holder acting as a key focal point providing support during key stages of the student journey at York St John in London.
Required Skills and Experience
- Experience of delivering a skills development programme.
- Experience of providing student support.
- Experience of delivering large complex projects.
- Understanding of the skills needed to support international students.
- Good communication skills.
