A Terms
The position is part of a 2 person team, 12 hours each per week, divided between 3 days, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The remuneration ranges from £13 to £15 per person an hour, depending on skills and experience. Cleaning materials and equipment will be supplied. The position reports to the House Manager for general administrative purposes but takes instructions from the housekeeper. An appropriate accident insurance is essential. Professional and character references are required.
B Cleaning Programme
General
The cleaner/s is/are responsible for the cleaning of surfaces and the emptying and cleaning of bins throughout the main house and the Coachhouse which is a 2-bedroom cottage attached to the main house. There are only wooden and slate floors except for a sisal carpet on the back staircase.
Outstanding facilities and a range of state-of-the-art equipment, including an elevator for the transport of equipment throughout the building ensure that the work can be done efficiently.
Antiques and fine art are maintained by the housekeeper, but dusting and de-cobwebbing of furniture, fixtures and ceilings are within the cleaner’s/s remit.
Wherever possible, environmentally friendly cleaning substances and equipment are used as well as reusable containers for cleaning products.
The cleaner/s is/are responsible for keeping the areas in which cleaning materials and equipment are stored clean and tidy.
From April to September, the household is very busy as the gardens (not house) are open to visitors for charity. From October to March, when there is less activity, cleaner/s and housekeeper work together to “deep-clean” individual rooms or areas, including bookshelves.
Bathrooms (twice per week):
- Cleaning all units
- Wiping surfaces including walls next to units
- Wiping mirrors and niches
- Removing limescale from taps and shower heads as required.
- Replenishing toilet paper and soap bars as required.
Kitchen, pantry, and boot room (twice per week):
- Wiping all surfaces, appliances and objects and wall behind hob, scrubbing slate worktops every two weeks
- Polishing stainless steel with special cleaning product
- Cleaning of ceramic hob with special cleaning product
- Cleaning of bin drawers
- Vacuuming and mopping slate floors throughout utility tract.
- Vacuuming/beating of entrance floor mats
Coach House (once per week, 1.5 hours, 2 persons):
- Cleaning programme is similar to main house.
General areas:
- Light fittings (except chandelier in hallway): to be wiped/dusted at a regular basis.
- Washable walls (bathrooms, kitchen, hallways), skirting boards and dados to be wiped with a damp cloth to remove marks and splashes.
- Floors: All wooden floors to be vacuumed once per week and mopped every two weeks on a rota with a relatively dry mop (hot water and some lemon juice or vinegar). Every 4 to 6 weeks, the wooden floors need to be polished using a polishing machine and a special wax product (to be demonstrated/supervised by the housekeeper)
All slate floors to be mopped once per week using a mild detergent except for the kitchen, pantry, housekeeping office and boot room which need to be mopped twice a week. Every 4 – 6 weeks the slate floors need to be scrubbed with a polishing machine or cleaned with steam. * Staircases: Back staircase to be vacuumed once per week, wooden staircases to be mopped as the wooden floors. All banisters to be dusted (wooden) or wiped (metal).
- Elevator: floor, doors and inside of the cabin to be cleaned once per week.
- Fireplaces: Ashes from the fireplaces in living room, cinema, library, and Coach house to be removed with an ash hoover once per week
- Bins: To be emptied out twice per week. Kitchen bins (general and compost) and recycling containers to be cleaned afterwards.
- Patios and entrance steps: The steps outside the boot room, kitchen, and laundry as well as, Coachhouse doors to be swept once per week.
- Windows and Doors: Door frames and handles to be wiped weekly. Door panels to be wiped when marked. Windowsills to be wiped weekly. Blinds to be wiped once per month.
- Upholstery: Sofas to be vacuumed weekly and sofa cushions to be beaten, regularly. Dog cushions to be vacuumed weekly.
- Furniture: Wooden furniture to be dusted (no water on antiques!), all other furniture to be wiped with a damp cloth.
- Telephones and Computers: To be wiped once per week and keyboards to be dusted.C Other Requirements:
The house is fitted out with very high-quality materials. The antique and contemporary furniture, paintings and general objects are all very valuable. Therefore, great expertise in dealing with delicate materials is required, as well as utmost care in handling these items. Politeness and discretion are expected as well as receptivity to feedback.
