Job Description

The Surgical Assessment Unit is an ambulatory assessment unit caring for acute surgical, early pregnancy, gynaecological, orthopaedic, urological and ENT admissions. It is a busy unit giving nurses the chance to thrive and develop while being part of a great team.

We are seeking to recruit a motivated individual to join our existing friendly and enthusiastic staff as a Band 2 Health Care Assistant. We are a small team of friendly, supportive and happy people. We have a passion for the provision of the fundamentals of patient care, high standards and making a difference and we are looking for a like-minded nurse to join us.

We are currently looking for enthusiastic and motivated Health Care Support Workers to join our teams and support them in providing effective care in a safe and therapeutic environment. We have vacancies across the Trust and are offering positions for all those areas.

The successful applicants must have:

Previous experience of working within a care environment or the NHS is desirable but not essential as you will be supported whilst learning the role.

You will attend a comprehensive induction programme and will be supported to complete the care certificate.

To work under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse (RN) at all times, working to
support and assist the delivery of, high quality, safe, dignified and compassionate healthcare, to all
patients.
This role requires you to practice and adopt the National 6 C’s which are Care, Compassion, Communication, Commitment, Competence and Courage. The 6Cs of nursing stand for the professional values and behaviors and commitment to always deliver excellent care. Each value is equal, not one is more important than the other. They focus on putting the person being cared for at the heart of the care they are given. At The Queen Elizabeth Hospital we consistently practice and look after patients with dignity and compassion.

Successful candidates will attend the GROW Programme this is the QEHKL enhanced induction programme. This includes mandatory training (the training that all clinical staff at the hospital complete), you will be taught the fundamental skills you need to perform your role and attend the Caring with Kindness programme (essential learning from patient experience). The course is very practical – you will have plenty of time to practice new skills before you start your new role.

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) King’s Lynn is located near some of the most beautiful scenery in the UK, along the north Norfolk coast, and not far from Sandringham House.

We provide a comprehensive range of specialist, acute, obstetrics and community-based healthcare services to around 331,000 people across west and north Norfolk, in addition to parts of Breckland, Cambridgeshire and South Lincolnshire. We have more than 4,000 staff and volunteers, approximately 530 beds, and a helipad for air ambulances. We work with neighbouring hospitals for the provision of tertiary services, including as part of regional partnership and network models of care, such as the trauma network. Some specialist services and clinics are provided in community facilities, such as the North Cambridgeshire hospital in Wisbech.

In February 2022, the significant progress that has been made at QEH in just three years since 2019 was recognised by the Care Quality Commission who rated the Trust as ‘Good’ in all of the core services they inspected, and recommended the Trust moves out of the recovery support system (formerly special measures). We have an absolute determination to continuously improve care and services for our patients and their families.
