Job Purpose
Reporting to the CAE manager, you will be responsible for providing analysis support in three key areas:
- CAUK based concept powertrain technologies (Electric & hybrid systems).
- Optimisation of CAHQ powertrain systems, either existing or under development.
- Investigation into failure or deficiencies of products in current production.
Person Specification
- Degree qualified or similar qualification in a relevant discipline.
- Minimum 5 years conventional and new energy powertrain CAE experience.
- Good inter-personal communication, and the ability to present & discuss technical information in a clear and concise manner to colleagues either in UK or China.
- Capable of working efficiently, with a pro-active attitude, as part of a small team to lead and deliver major tasks to tight deadlines.
- Be an expert in one or more of the following areas: 1D (such as GT-Suite) simulation of HEV/PHEV/EV power/torque requirement; e-Motor efficiency and performance (Motor-CAD or Comsol); shifting quality (Ansys Adams).
- Detailed knowledge of power unit component cooling strategy, thermal load and durability, experience of fluid/structural coupled analysis are desirable.
- Detailed knowledge of engine/transmission/e-Machine/battery design, development, validation and test processes and their relationship with CAE processes will have advantages.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Powertrain design analysis including but not limited to dedicated hybrid engine, dedicated hybrid transmission, e-machine, battery, and e-control units. This may include some or all of following analyses: engine performance and e-machine matching/integration (using GT-Suite), powertrain cooling/heating (1D or 3D CFD), gear shifting quality (Romax and Ansys), component durability (Ansys or Abaqus), motor performance (Comsol or Motor-CAD).
- Responsible for implementing and documenting the best CAE practices and process development.
- Provide training and coaching to technical and management personnel, including those at parent company.
- Apply proven simulation techniques in support of new powertrain technology selection and system concept studies.
- Set analysis requirement such as boundary conditions and deliverables for supplier, third party or junior engineers.
- Potential involvement of big data and AI project related to powertrain real usage data using Python.
