An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Royal Mail as a Workshop Manager. We’re recruiting now for a Workshop Manager in Newtownabbey Northern Ireland.
About the role
As a Workshop Manager, you’ll be critical in the delivery of both Fleet performance and for meeting the requirements of the Operator in the most efficient and cost-effective way. You’ll play a pivotal role in the delivery of cultural change. You’ll also be accountable for the performance of your Workshop, with specific accountability for delivering performance against all key Maintenance scorecard indicators - including, Safety, Legal, Cost, People and Stakeholder performance measures.
In addition, you’ll be responsible for the following:
- Accountable for compliance of both legal and RM safety policies, as well as meeting safety targets
- Accountable for delivering maintenance services and for optimising cost performance and forecasting with the use of the resource planning and booking tools
- Responsible for optimising the efficiency of Fleet Workshops to meet industry standard performance levels
- Ensure effective engagement, communication and coaching to support and develop the Fleet Workshop team
- Accountable for the achievement of all agreed targets, including internal Customer targets with SLAs, through effective performance management techniques
- Provide visible and effective leadership for Fleet Workshop teams and support staff
- Deployment of all changes relating to Fleet Workshops
- Build effective and professional relationships with key stakeholders and customers, being the first point of contact for operational managers for Fleet related queries
- Actively deploy, manage, and support the maintenance of ISO 9001 quality standard within Fleet Workshops and support Continuous Improvement activity within the Workshops
- Effectively manage the local IR interface, working collaboratively with union colleagues to deliver change
- Responsible for any mobile sites and sub-locations under the control of the Workshop and/or Cluster
- Budgetary responsibility of circa £3m
- Headcount responsibility for 28 staff
About you
To be successful in this role, you will possess the following essential skills, experiences, and qualifications:
- Fully qualified to at least advanced level (IMI Level 3) in Light or Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and repair,or an equivalent qualification
- Full manual driving licence
- Ability to effectively manage and build relations with stakeholders
- Ability to influence and deliver results through people
- Ability to manage and build relations with Trade Union partners
- Ability to lead, develop and coach to drive performance improvement.
- A high degree of flexibility to ensure effective cover across multiple shift operations
you may also be required to travel to other sites within your area of responsibility
- Relevant industry knowledge and experience of dispersed maintenance operations
- Experience of leading and coaching teams through change
- Knowledge of compliance requirements for vehicles and road transport legislation is essential
