What you'll be doing
Financial Crime Apprentices will join Legal & General’s Financial Crime Operations team which consists of two specialist teams: Central Screening Function and the Enhanced Due Diligence team. These teams work to protect Legal & General from possible financial crime matters. Services these teams perform include:
- Conducting in-depth reviews and investigations into new and existing relationships
- Determining if relationships could be harmful to L&G and escalating as required
- The screening of customers at onboarding stage, identifying if there is or is a risk presented
- Review of true matches to potential or known criminals, terrorists or sanctioned individual or entities.
- Review of alleged Bribery cases, Money Laundering alerts, Enforcement alert reviews, Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs) and Sanctioned individuals/entities
As a Financial Crime apprentice analyst, no working day is the same, so if you like variety within a safe environment (e.g. industry standards, guidelines and best practice) and you love to ask questions to delve deeper and understand why something does (or doesn’t) work – then a career in risk is for you.
Join us on a 24 month programme in which you will complete a Level 3 Risk and Compliance qualification. You’ll receive on the job training and coaching from your line manager to help you gain the professional, personal, social, and methodical skills needed to succeed in a business analysis career. Practical on the job learning will include:
- Seeing, via shadowing, observation
- Assisting, via active participation and working with your team
- and lastly, “going solo” with support of your manger as your confidence and skills grow
Alongside this you’ll complete training workshops and assignments, delivered by a leading apprenticeship training provider. Combined, these will fully equip you to be successful in your role, with the knowledge and skills required to apply to real world business challenges.
During your apprenticeship you will:
- Develop your investigative techniques to use existing and/or publicly available information to conduct risk-based Customer Due Diligence (CDD) or Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD)
- Review screening alerts to identify and assess to identify and risk assess matches supporting the team to complete necessary risk assessments
- Review Legal & General systems with support from your team to assist Financial Crime Consultants with their investigations into Internal Suspicious Activity referrals
- Capture information to support a risk based decision in the specified documentation format.
- Ensure accurate entry of data in the CDD & EDD records or systems. Identify and escalate any issues or risks that require further assistance from financial crime advisory specialists or management
- Have the opportunity to support the team in production of MI data.
- Assist members of the team in the production of reports suitable for senior management and external bodies, including FCA, Action Fraud and the National Crime Agency (NCA).
- Through investigations and screening you will develop your stakeholder analysis and management skills.
- Develop and enhance personal skills such as confidence, assertiveness, focus, adaptability, curiosity
- Develop methodical skills such as problem solving, creative thinking, time management
- Apply the knowledge and skills that you’ve learnt from your training into the role
What we're looking for
The person who would most benefit and enjoy this programme is hungry to learn and eager to get started in the world of work. We’re not expecting prior industry experience, but we’ll want to see that you have the aptitude, potential and desire which will ultimately lead to you being successful. We’ll teach you the rest!
To qualify for the programme, you will need:
- 5 x GCSE’s at grade 4-9 (A-C) or above (or equivalent) including Maths and English
- Minimum 96 UCAS points from your Level 3 Qualifications e.g. A 'levels or equivalent
- To not currently be on a government funded training course, e.g. on apprenticeship
- The right to work in the UK and have lived in the UK or EEA for the past 3 consecutive years.
