The Associate Director, Financial Services will focus on Europe (EU) based companies and investors, and work collaboratively across BSR, with an emphasis on Sustainability/ ESG /Impact investing topics and issues by providing consulting and member services. Sitting primarily within BSR’s Financial Services practice and secondarily within the Sustainability Management practice, the Associate Director will work with companies to incorporate Sustainability/ ESG / Impact investor priorities into strategy, corporate governance, stakeholder engagement, and sustainability reporting. In addition, BSR provides support to our investor member companies at both the corporate and portfolio level across different asset classes and industries.
The position ensures exceptional project execution and high-quality engagement with BSR member companies and other partners. Specific aspects of the position include:
- Financial Services: BSR works with approximately ~60 member companies in the financial services sector, including private capital investors, banks, insurance companies, asset managers, and financial technology companies. The Associate Director will work closely with BSR’s financial services team to enhance the sustainability of these member companies and to integrate sustainability considerations into their investments, products, services, and at the corporate level.
- ESG/Impact Investing Leadership: The Associate Director will be an in-house expert on ESG/impact investing trends, standards, relationships, and expectations for our member companies, with a particular focus on the European markets. Knowledge of and experience with impact investing, sustainability frameworks and or regulation (including but not limited to SFDR, Article 8, Article 9, EU taxonomy and OPIM) trends, policies, certifications, approaches, impact and ESG assessment and reporting, etc. are extremely valuable.
- Thought Leadership and External Representation: BSR Associate Directors represent BSR to external audiences by presenting at conferences, writing publications, forming external partnerships, and creating other opportunities to raise BSR’s profile.
- Business Development: BSR Associate Directors build deep relationships with senior executives and business leaders within BSR’s member base and develop new business opportunities across the sector portfolio. The Associate Director will increase BSR’s market presence in Europe, grow membership, and other consulting/advisory opportunities directly and in partnership with other BSR teams. Associate Directors may also have additional responsibilities to develop business with private foundations, public-sector funders, and other partners. This includes maintaining day-to-day client relationships; overseeing member relationships; and supporting member recruitment.
- Project Direction: BSR Associate Directors ensure successful project management, as well as provide overall project direction. In the Project Director role, they deliver consulting services to members or funders globally, depending on business needs, often directing several projects simultaneously. They will lead project teams to effectively achieve project objectives, outcomes, and impacts; establish the standards by which the project will be guided, including managing senior team members; and support team members’ learning and skills development.
- Cluster Leadership and Strategy: BSR Associate Directors contribute to the management of teams by working closely with BSR leadership, facilitating meetings, and leading talent reviews where appropriate.

Denmark 648,361 DKK - 745,615 DKK (plus an 8% target bonus)
France € 82,313 - € 94,660 (plus an 8% target bonus)
UK £ 72,078 - £ 82,890 (plus an 8% target bonus)
- Deep knowledge and experience in management consulting or working within investment management, ESG investing, impact investing, as well as other key sustainability content areas, such as sustainability management and strategy. Preference will be given to candidates with a background in sustainability regulations, sustainability frameworks, due diligence, and investment management analytical experience.
- 10 years of professional experience in leadership roles in business/sustainability gained by working at an asset owner/asset manager, banking/financial services firm or advisor preferred, which could be combined with other complementary experiences from top-tier consulting firm, NGO, or similar role or equivalent education and experience.
- Understanding and previous exposure to EU sustainability and financial regulatory framework and requirements.
- Proven track record of success in working with business in a client/customer-facing position. Well-developed interpersonal skills for high-level interaction with members and other companies.
- Experience leading multiple, disparate projects simultaneously.
- Recognized local thought leader with direct sustainability experience, publications and relevant external representation with the private sector, public authorities, and key local stakeholders.
- Proven team leadership skills, including a demonstrated ability to mentor other team members.
- High degree of fluency in English, with fluency in a second language a plus. Role is 100% in English.
- Excellent presentation and facilitation skills. Strong organizational skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and well-developed interpersonal skills for high-level interaction with global staff and Board of Trustees.
- Willingness to undertake up to 25% business travel.
