Job title: Personal assistant (PA)
Location: Adel, LS16
Job purpose:
To support a 17 year old young person (female) to access social and leisure activities outside the home independently, and help to build confidence outside the home.
About the employer:
- This young person is a 17 year old female, currently attending college on a part time basis. She enjoys visiting museums, watching films, and craft such as crochet. She used to enjoy reading, and enjoys visiting libraries and second hand book shops to look for books, but struggles to concentrate with reading. She is a good swimmer but finds the noise and environment of a swimming pool difficult to manage. She enjoys playing music, but has struggled with attending lessons. Although struggling with college she is academically very able and has an ambition to go to university and live there independently.
- The young person requiring support has Autism and ADHD, and also anxiety and struggles with confidence in social situations. She also has type 1 diabetes but this is self-managed and support is not required with this.
Main duties:
Social duties, for example, support to:
- Travel to leisure activities by public transport, and support with independence in accessing leisure activities.
- Visit local museums.
- Independently visit shops.
- Attend social groups for hobbies such as craft or music.
- Go to a local swimming pool.
Personal care not necessary for this role.
Domestic duties not necessary for this role.
These duties may vary from day to day.
Type of person that you are looking for:
Specific requirements:
- An understanding of autism, ADHD, social difficulties and anxiety would be helpful for this role.
- A willingness to travel to leisure activities or shops via public transport.
- Able to build a good working relationship with young people.
- Flexible and adaptable.
What you can expect to receive:
The personal assistant will be given online/webinar training in anxiety, autism and diabetes
Hours of work:
Flexible hours to be mutually agreed. Flexibility will be required to fit around college hours and term dates.
Skills, qualifications and experience
Essential:
- Able to swim
- Good at building relationships
- Awareness of autism, ADHD and mental health issues.
Preferred:
- An interest in visiting museums.
- An ability to play a musical instrument (piano, guitar, flute).
- An experience of university culture.
