Your New Role
National Highways have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Data & Intelligence Analyst to join our team in the North West region, based in either Manchester or Warrington. The Senior Data & Intelligence Analyst will Provide timely and effective network data, analysis, intelligence/insight, visualisation and modelling to the regional Senior Management Team and the wider business to support decision-making and achievement of regional business objectives. Work with internal and external stakeholders to identify where analysis can inform decision-making concerning the Strategic Road Network.
What you’ll be leading on
- Lead on problem-solving and regional/national analytical projects using strong analytical capability and experience by applying analytical principles to produce practical and innovative solutions.
- Research, gather, monitor and analyse multiple datasets across safety, traffic, customer and performance to inform and influence collaborative evidence-led decision-making within Operations. Reach balanced and objective conclusions with incomplete data and effectively evaluate risk and practical implementation.
- Improve the region’s insight into safety, customer and delivery performance through the innovative use of data analysis by applying, enhancing or developing automation, visualisation and analytical approaches/decision-support tools.
- Develop an understanding of business performance metric calculations, identify operational levers and undertake regional performance modelling.
- To lead and champion intelligent occupancy of the network via modelling traffic management and event impact on customer/economy.
- Develop and maintain in-depth working knowledge of a broad range of analytical and data visualisation software systems (including but not limited to data query languages, Power BI, GIS and Excel) and analytical tools used within NH.
- Develop and maintain in-depth working knowledge of a broad range of datasets, NH databases and theory pertaining to the network and network/business performance across road safety, customer, and delivery.
- Comply with legal requirements and NH Data Management principles when handling and sharing data.
- Implement the Analytical Assurance Framework, identifying and escalating issues with data quality and data integrity. Inform the continuous development of relevant data sources, data storage/access and tools to support the business to achieve its intelligence-led objectives.
- Communicate complex analytical outcomes to a broad range of internal/external stakeholders at all levels and from different specialisms.
- Provide recommendations highlighting relevant risks and opportunities to decisionmakers and reach balanced and objective conclusions with incomplete data.
- Actively build and maintain a network of colleagues within the analytical community to foster good practice and the development of analytical capability across the organisation.
- Develop network analysts by providing coaching, support and guidance to junior colleagues.
To be Successful
- Extensive experience of working with varied sets of data to extract meaningful business and performance insights, and strong report writing experience with SQL (Structured Query Language).
- Excellent skills using standard office software products and highly proficient in MS Excel and the use of Pivot Tables to analyse data sets.
- In-depth and broad technical knowledge of analytical tools such as Power BI and GIS.
- A working knowledge of exploratory, visual analytics, optimization and predictive analytics methodologies, tools and techniques.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with a track record of managing relationships with multiple stakeholders and evidence of skills to influence relationships for positive outcomes.
- Ability to prioritise, work to tight deadlines and have excellent attention to detail.
- Good understanding of data and information management principles and best practices.
- Demonstrable experience of delivering business insights, improvements and benefits through the application of data modelling and analysis.
- Experience of using structured problem-solving techniques to quantitatively and qualitatively explore and understand business problems through engagement with operational leaders, managers and teams.
