Job Description
Every year we hire out or loan over 75,000 wheelchairs to help get people moving again after an illness or an injury. You could help our Mobility Aids service by answering phone calls to ensure those in need are able to access a wheelchair when they require one. Volunteers will be based in the British Red Cross office in Belfast. The service hours are Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. We are looking for volunteers who are available to volunteer for at least one shift per week, the shifts will be between 3 and 4 hours. For this role volunteers will be using the British Red Cross telephony system and internal IT systems. A good level of IT skills are essential for this role. Full training and support on how to use the systems will be provided. **Health and Safety Statement** We take an individual approach to ensuring your safety. Tasks: Answering phone calls from members of the public.
Providing practical support to individuals such as information on the various equipment the Mobility Aids service can offer.
Providing emotional support to distressed individuals.
Accurately recording information using our IT systems.
Signposting the public to other British Red Cross services and external agencies.
Skills: Being able to respond to distressed individuals in a calm and responsible manner.
You will be IT literate.
Able to recognise the signs of stress in yourself and others and be aware of your support options.
Willing to undertake training that is appropriate for the role.
Willingness to use a Telephony system.
