Objective:
Responsible for carrying out maintenance activities on-site, this could consist of reactive and planned maintenance. All work to be conducted in a professional, efficient, safe manner in-line with OPA policies and procedures.
Job Dimensions:
The job will require the post holder to be qualified in a relevant Engineering Craft / Technician discipline and completed a Modern Day Craft Apprenticeship, or be assessed as competent with relevant experience; have the ability to work collaboratively with other team members and others with whom they may have dealings in a professional manner. This role would suit somebody with knowledge of a rotating and static plant including, tanks, pumps, valves and pipework. The candidate will be required to carry out manual handling, and the need to work outside will be a daily requirement. Understanding of a COMAH regulated site would be an advantage but not essential.

Adhere to Permit to Work Procedures and Control of Works

Ensure activities completed are fully compliant with the organisations policies, procedures and legal requirements, particularly safety.

Undertake regular training to keep up with OPA competencies.

Maintain a professional approach in day-to-day activities.

Communicate appropriately with others.

Maintain high standards of probity and confidentiality.

Pro-active, self-motivated, can do attitude, work under minimal supervision.

Computer literate and ability to fill out paperwork in a timely manner.
Operations
These duties include, but are not limited to:
-
Operate as part of the team for the receipt/ issue of POL Products to H.M Navy and other authorised customers.
-
Fault Finding and repair for OFD Gosport (and other locations as and when required); including plant and equipment, maintenance of plant and equipment.

Be able to understand technical drawings, P&ID’s, isometrics, general arrangements.
-
Carry out planned maintenance activities and defect rectification efficiently.
-
Prepare the work area for more complex maintenance of depot, systems or components.
-
Utilise diagnostic techniques to identify faults in depot systems and components.
-
Reinstate the work area after completing the maintenance of depot, systems and components.
-
Oil Spill techniques.
-
Confined Space works to include specialist training (and subject to medical fitness) in the use of:
-
Confined space training;
-
Compressed air breathing apparatus
-
Atmosphere monitoring meters;
-
Rescue equipment and procedures.
-
Be part of a Rostered “On-Call” Team.
-
Willing to undertake Short Notice overtime.
-
Checking and calibrating instruments to make sure they are accurate
-
Carrying out quality inspections
-
Responding immediately to equipment breakdowns
-
Fixing faults or arranging for replacements to be installed
-
Keeping line managers informed of progress
-
Overhauling and replacing parts according to schedule
-
Fit and assembly of mechanical components making use of appropriate machinery/hand tools.
-
Complete weekly / monthly PPM paperwork in agreed time scale with Depot Engineer.
-
Site defects to be reported immediately to Depot Engineer for rectification.
- Carry out PPM and extra work requirements in adherence to set engineering standards in accordance with HASAWA requirement
