As Principal Engineer, you will supervise and support the engineering workforce in the Southern region in a one team ethos and support the Regional Operations Manager and Contract Manager as necessary to achieve the safe, efficient, operation and maintenance of all plant and equipment within the Virgin Media Portfolio.
For this role, you will need an extensive knowledge of all electrical and HVAC systems is essential to support this critical contract.
The emphasis will be on providing a level of service that meets and often exceeds engineering excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- To provide engineering advice, assistance and support to the regional engineering teams across the Southern region including London, home counties and South Eastern Counties
- To provide engineering advice, assistance and support to the PMC and NOC at Stoke including quote production and authorisation to the agreed contract limit and all associated works
- Assist with the effective use and upkeep of designated site documentation working in conjunction with nominated H&S representative ensuring all legal and statutory obligations are met
- To be part of out-of-hours response in emergency situations and support the regional engineering callout rota, and when necessary as part of the role, to implement any necessary escalation procedures to the Regional Operations Manager and above as and when required
- To be part of the scheduled callout rota as required
- To complete Virgin Media change requests to allow for planned and reactive works to be carried out in a safe and controlled manor ensuring the network is protected
- Manage the assets for the client in their critical environment
- Update any new assets to ISS systems to keep high level system and information relevant
- To assist the Regional Operations Manager to carry out monthly team meeting and toolbox talks throughout the regions
- Support Regional Operations Manager in the completion of technical audits on all sites within the geographical remit
Professional and personal competencies/qualifications
Air Conditioning: City and Guilds 2079 Safe Handling of Refrigerants or CITB J11 Equivalent
NVQ 2/3 or City & Guilds in Commercial Refrigeration and AC Systems
OR
Qualified Electrician 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations (BS: 7671:2008).
City and Guilds 2360 Parts 1 and 2 or equivalent.
Desirable Experience & Qualifications
Recognised apprenticeship in electrical or air conditioning in addition to relevant qualifications and excellent understanding of Electrical fundamentals and LV distribution. At least 3 years’ experience of a similar role. High level Understanding/Experience of the following plant & equipment in order to provide effective first line response:
- Static UPS
- DC Systems
- Emergency Generators & changeover
- Chillers/Chilled Water distribution networks
- LV Switchgear/distribution
- Significant previous experience in providing multi discipline reactive and PPM building services maintenance within a data centre or critical environment.
- Experience of working under strict Health & Safety procedures including Electrical Safe systems of Works (SSOW) Risk Assessments and Method Statements
- Low Voltage Authorised Person
- IPAF/PASMA
- IOSH
