Job Description

Introduction

Architype is seeking a part time Learning and Development Coordinator for our People Team, who shares our passion for people and planet.

Architype is the UK’s leading Passivhaus Architect and widely recognised for our innovative approach including Education Architect of the Year, highly commended AJ100 Practice of the Year, 2022 RIBA London and Sustainability Award and 2022 South of England and South Wales BCO award.

The main purpose of the People Team at Architype is to support the productivity and well-being of all our staff (known as co-owners here). We are so proud of what they do to create architecture that works for people and planet and it’s a privilege to support them to be happy, healthy, values-driven and agile creatives! We are also mindful that the pandemic and recent rapid business growth has stretched us all. So, in 2023 the People Team particularly want to support a regeneration of the co-owner body. In this we aspire to be, not the human resources team – but rather the human regeneration team.

The Learning and Development Coordinator role will sit alongside our existing People Journey Coordinator and Head of People. We are also recruiting for a People Assistant.

We strive to create an environment where our people can learn every day, have the opportunity to develop and play to their strengths. The Learning and Development Coordinator will play a key role in building on our culture of lifelong learning and development so that we can give all our people a great career experience, but also develop the skills and capabilities we need as a business. The LDC role will do this by transforming our training coordination at Architype - developing a meaningful framework for training and bringing more coordination and insight to the learning and development function within the practice (working closely with our Training working group).

This is a new role in a growing practice so there will be room for development for the right candidate.

The Context:

Working culture at Architype is creative and caring. We work in a collaborative and supportive way that encourages fresh ideas and career progression, and we support flexible working for all. We are proud that Architype is regularly featured in the top 5 of Building’s Employer of the Year. We are 30% owned by the staff through an Employee Benefit Trust and are committed to becoming 100% employee owned in the future. – it is why we call ourselves “co-owners”. We are also committed to promoting a diverse and inclusive community. We offer a range of family friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements and staff engagement forums, to support staff from different backgrounds.

We’re proud that Architype is a creative, ecological, progressive community – these values inspire us every day and underpin all we do as a People Team.

About Architype

Architype has an open and collaborative ethos with a common purpose – to deliver fantastic architecture that performs exactly as predicted. We have steadily grown over the last 35 years and are now a team of 90+ collaborating across three studios in Edinburgh, Hereford and London.

Architype has a rich history of pioneering low carbon design and a clear focus on how buildings work for people and the planet. We masterplan and design a wide range of buildings across the education, university, housing, community and cultural sectors. Our consultancy service PERFORM+ enables us to offer insight and cutting-edge technical expertise to clients.

Working Lifestyle

Architype is currently evolving a hybrid working policy to enable staff to work flexibly from both home and from our studios. In Edinburgh we occupy an exciting studio space in Leith. In Hereford our studio is based in barns in the beautiful Herefordshire countryside. In London we are experimenting with a shared working solution. All co-owners are fully supported with equipment to enable hybrid working and are integrated into our collaborative team culture both on and offline.

The People Team serves all three studios so we are flexible about where you are based - you do not need to be resident in Edinburgh, Herefordshire or London but it would be useful if you were within commuting distance of one of these, and able to attend bi-monthly Team days in London or Hereford.

Benefits

A competitive salary which is aligned to industry standards. This is currently in the following range, with adjusted weighting rates for co-owners who live either in London/SouthEast or Edinburgh region:

33 days holiday (inclusive of bank holidays) (FTE)

Currently 20 hours week (with possibility of increase as the role develops) – flexible/hybrid working possible

Pension benefits of 3% employer contribution

Access to a company health scheme and cycle to work scheme.

Commitment to supporting appropriate training for your ongoing development.
