About the Employer
I am employer and mother to my son. He resides at home with his father, me and younger sibling in Sunderland. My son has a diagnosis of Autism, learning disability and epilepsy. He is nonverbal and is currently going through diagnosis for a genetic disorder and has hypospadias My son wears nappies and will require support with all personal care when out and about. He will need support at mealtimes cutting up etc.: some feeding with assistance however he is able to manage finger foods himself. He is generally a very active little boy who enjoys the outdoors. His mobility is generally good but at times he can be clumsy. Due to my son’s diagnosis and learning disabilities, he will always require close supervision as he is extremely vulnerable. He has no sense of danger or awareness of risks. Whilst he is nonverbal, he is familiar with Makaton, so can communicate likes/dislikes and wants through facial expression, behavior and will lead others by hand to let them know what he wants. My son is a general boy of his age and loves to be outdoors, he enjoys anywhere with access to water such as the beach, parks with ponds and rivers, being able to enjoy the freedom of the outdoors and throw sticks and stones etc.: into the water. My son enjoys soft plays however does not manage well at very busy/noisy times and can become anxious or distressed. My son loves the attention and company of adults, so any person applying will be required to become involved in his activity of choice

About the Role
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support and/or prompt with personal care. This may include toileting, showering/bathing, getting in and out of bed, getting dressed.
- Support and/or prompt with cooking/meal preparation and eating meals/drinks.
- Support and/or prompt the individual to access sporting and leisure activities.
- Assist and encourage socialisation, participating in activities.
- Promote and encourage friendships and independence.
- Develop a good and trusting one to one working relationship.
- Other Duties include: They should be outgoing, friendly, patient, and enthusiastic, which will support in developing his social skills and help build his independence and confidence. There will be requirement to support with all aspects of his personal care on outings
The individuals needs may vary from day to day and your tasks may reflect this. You could be required to perform other duties as reasonably required.
You have a responsibility as an employee to report all accidents to the employer immediately. You have a duty to report defects and / or hazards which may give rise to an accident. You are to ensure the safety of the individual at all times.
Due to the nature of the work for which you are applying, this post is subject to a satisfactory DBS disclosure (costs will be covered).

Other skills include: It is desirable for anyone applying to have knowledge of Makaton or Epilepsy Awareness. I require candidates who are committed and motivated in wanting to make a difference and improving outcomes for my son
Required Training
Successful candidates are required to undertake any training that is considered necessary and appropriate to the role.
Other training required includes: Epilepsy training to be provided by Employer and epilepsy nurse
