This is a fulfilling role where you can make a positive impact on the lives of children with disabilities and their families.
There will be children who fly in the face of their disabilities, but a challenge of the role is in providing support to children with potentially life-limiting conditions and supporting families through challenging times. You will be surrounded by a team of experienced family support workers and supportive managers, but you will need to be empathetic and resilient.
The team all share the commitment to do the best for the families we support and a drive to improve the service we offer. We know that the personal and professional development of our team members is important for achieving good outcomes.
If this sounds like something you could help us with, we would welcome your application.
We work with a “Whole Family” approach as defined by the Kirklees Stronger Families. This approach means helping families secure better outcomes for their children through more effective and better co-ordinated interventions from a wide range of services.
As a Family Support Worker, you will be expected to support and assess the needs, risks and strengths of children, young people and their families and determine how these needs can best be met. This will involve working closely with our partners to ensure appropriate support can be offered.
You will support the delivery of the aims and objectives of the Early Support & Inclusion Team for young people and Families across Kirklees.
You will have great communication skills, and the ability to relate to the children and families you support. You will work professionally and creatively with all family members. Engaging effectively with children, young people and their families and responding promptly when needed. The ability to work flexibly to manage the needs of children and their families together with the needs of the service is a must.
You will be able to identify barriers to families engaging with the services and find ways to work better with them. We believe that it is not that families will not engage with us, but that we haven’t found the right way to engage families effectively yet.
A level 4 qualification in working with families or the equivalent would be advantageous but is not essential as you will need to evidence substantial experience of working with vulnerable families from diverse backgrounds and your ability to deliver improved outcomes as part of the application process.
You will need to demonstrate a clear understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures.
For a full list of the role requirements please see the attached Job Profile and Focus Sheet. As part of the application process you will need to demonstrate how you meet the Employee Specification as detailed on the Family Support Worker Focus Sheet.
