Are you an enthusiastic IT professional with a passion for providing top-notch technical support? Do you have extensive experience in 1st and 2nd line support of Windows 10, 11, and Apple desktops and laptops, as well as a comprehensive understanding of desktop and laptop hardware? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our Headington based university department as an IT Officer.
In this exciting opportunity, you will earn an attractive pay rate of £16.49 per hour + holiday pay for an initial 12-week full-time assignment, commencing immediately.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide excellent customer service.
- To provide frontline IT and AV support by e-mail, MS Teams, telephone or in person, remotely or onsite.
- Monitor tickets in the IT team queue, provide resolutions or assign tickets (with full details) appropriately, according to priority and workload of team members. Where necessary, handing tickets off to other Local, Divisional or Central IT Service Desk teams.
- Liaise with third-party suppliers and other support services where necessary.
- Ensure incidents are updated, recording support activities within agreed standards, including providing a weekly report showing the status of incidents in progress.
- Identify and repair hardware and software problems on Windows, Apple, and Linux devices, such as virus infections, hardware failures, network configurations and application software configuration problems.
- Deploy new and rebuild existing Windows, Apple and Linux hardware as required, using provided imaging and application deployment software tools.
- Identify and carry out technical tasks (e.g. Network patching, hardware upgrades, operating system or software deployment) in consultation with the IT Coordinator or appropriate Local, Divisional or Central IT Service Desk teams.
- Provide Identity and access management of User accounts, in conjunction with Divisional and Central directory services, using the appropriate services, liaising with the relevant support services where necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of software licences as well as hardware assets within the relevant databases.
- Provide accurate and up-to-date purchasing advice & obtain quotations from suppliers as appropriate.
- Provide IT induction for staff, students and visitors as and when necessary.
- Keep abreast of support-related technical developments, e.g. new operating systems, new applications and tools relevant to core tasks. Maintain and develop personal skills profile.
We are looking for a self-motivated candidate with excellent problem-solving skills who can manage and prioritize their workload effectively. You should be a strong team player with great interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate technical information in both technical and non-technical language to individuals at all levels of the university.
If you have experience with desktop imaging solutions and/or software deployment technologies, have worked in an academic IT support environment, or have a background in troubleshooting AV equipment, this would be advantageous. Familiarity with mobile device configuration, security, and management would also be beneficial.
