Safeguarding, Wellbeing and Resilience Lead (DDSL)

This job description and Seaford College’s Employment Policies, terms and conditions for Teaching Staff set out the terms upon which you will be employed by The Johnson Trust Limited at Seaford College.

RESPONSIBLE TO: Headmaster and Governing Body

REPORTING TO: Director of Safeguarding, Wellbeing and Resilience (DSL)

PURPOSE: To ensure that safeguarding and child protection in the school are effectively carried out both to meet and exceed statutory obligations.

The Safeguarding, Wellbeing and Resilience Lead is a member of the school’s Pastoral Team with the responsibility for supporting the delivery of pastoral care, wellbeing and safeguarding of the students in the school, as well as being a member of the Pastoral Team located in our Pink House.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES

· Supporting the whole-school approach towards wellbeing, curriculum, and pastoral support involving compassionate, professional liaison with stakeholders including students and parents

· Supporting the identification of students at risk of, or showing signs of, mental health/wellbeing concerns

· Assisting and establishing good relationships with parents/carers and, where appropriate, encouraging active involvement in the development of support plans

· Supporting the delivery of interventions for students

· Assisting staff in contact with students requiring mental health and wellbeing support/advice

· Working closely with staff to monitor student’s behaviours, relationships, development, and happiness throughout the school year

· Ensuring that effective communications and liaison with Social Care and other agencies take place as appropriate in the event of staff having safeguarding concerns about a student and making referrals where appropriate

· Ensuring (with the DSL and other DDSLs) that all new staff, Governors, and others are trained as soon as possible after joining the College

· Assisting with and ensuring that the DDSLs and appropriate School Governing Body member responsible for safeguarding are properly trained and re-trained on a two-yearly cycle

· Assist with the review of the annual Seaford Safeguarding Policy and the efficiency with which related duties have been discharged

· With the DSL, providing, regular updates and training on all safeguarding matters, including changes in child protection policy and procedure

· Ensuring a thorough understanding and up to date knowledge of the unique risks associated with online safety in order to keep students safe whilst they are online

The DSL and DDSLs will undergo appropriate training every two years in order to:

· Understand the assessment process for providing early help and intervention, for example, early help assessments

· Have a working knowledge of how the local authority conducts a child protection case conference and child protection review conference and be able to attend and contribute to these when required to do so

· Ensure that each and every member of staff has access to and understands the

· College’s Safeguarding Policy and procedures, especially new and part time staff

· Be alert to the specific needs of children in need, those with special educational needs and young carers

· Be able to keep detailed, accurate, secure written records of concerns and referrals

· Obtain access to resources and attend any relevant or refresher training courses

· Encourage a culture of listening to children and taking account of their wishes and feelings, among all staff and promoting the whole school approach to wellbeing

Key Skills and Competencies

· Ideally but not essentially from an education background, having worked or working in a safeguarding capacity

· Excellent communication skills, written and verbal

· Ability to work on own initiative, well organised and able to cope with a varied workload

· IT literate (including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and maintaining databases)

· Ability to manage sensitive and confidential matters in line with GDPR requirements

· Excellent accuracy, diligence, and an organised and methodical approach

· Ability to work as part of a team

· Ability to work with a wide range of people and develop strong working relationships

· A commitment to supporting and developing student independence

· Ability to precis and write documents accurately and succinctly

· Ability to liaise with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels and knowledge when to pass matters on
