Programme Coordinator (73824)
Salary: £30,502 - £35,333 per annum (starting salary will be £30,502 per annum)
Full Time, fixed term appointment to 30th June 2026
Based in Liverpool (occasional international travel)

Your role will be to coordinate day-to-day centre administration working across a number of key research projects and supporting the Director, Professor Dame Tina Lavender.

You’ll play a key part in coordinating all research activity relating to the NIHR Global Health Unit on the Prevention and Management of Stillbirths and Neonatal Deaths in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. This is a five-year programme led from the CWNH and with partners in eight countries including India, Kenya, Malawi, Pakistan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

You will be comfortable dealing with stakeholders at all levels of an organisation and ideally, have experience working in partnership with colleagues overseas.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Monitoring and Evaluation:
  • Proactively engage with partners in Africa and Asia to capture and maintain records of research outputs and impact, support monitoring and evaluation and the development of research programme impact reports.
  • Maintenance of asset registers for equipment purchased by the partnership, reviewing for compliance with finance reporting.
  • Coordinate training activities and record keeping across the partnership, support the team in producing high quality training resources.
  • Plan and coordinate the preparation of annual and interim reports to funders with oversight of deadlines and essential supporting documentation.
  • Develop strong links with research partners, supporting staff visits to CWNH and also visiting overseas partners to provide support with their events as required.
Financial Management:
  • Understand the financial requirements for each project and ensure funds are spent appropriately and in line with donor regulations.
  • Coordinate quarterly finance reporting with partners in Africa and Asia, providing guidance and support on funder compliance, monitoring expenditure against agreed budgets and problem solving/escalating queries and issues as required.
  • Coordinate and process all partner payments against research deliverables and contractual timelines and process all items of expenditure including credit cards, purchase orders, invoices, bank transfers ordering currency etc.
Programme Development & Communications:
  • As the primary contact for all research project activities and communications at CWNH, you’ll organise and service all Unit related meetings of Country Leads, Management Group, International Advisory Board including preparation of agendas and associated papers, minute taking and following up actions.
  • Coordinate the preparation of communication and dissemination materials, including website and social media channels, ensuring brand identity in keeping with funder and partner requirements.
  • Manage all international travel, accommodation, subsistence and venue hire for research meetings in the UK and partner countries.
  • Coordinate all arrangements for the bi-annual cross partnership international Learning & Sharing Event ensuring the events are administered effectively and within budget.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills with experience working across projects within an academic environment – in addition to an understanding of the funding environment for research in the UK and Internationally.

The candidate will also ideally demonstrate:

  • Qualified to A-Level standard or equivalent level qualification in relevant business administration subject with evidence of continued professional development.
  • Experience of providing diary management and secretarial support to senior members of a team
  • Experience of managing travel arrangements for international meetings and events
  • Knowledge of use of social media to communicate project outputs
  • Experience in financial management (budget preparation and reconciliation), producing reports and analysing financial information.
  • Experience of working collaboratively with international partners and organising international meetings involving multiple partners.
  • Advanced working knowledge of relevant computer software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
