The Resources Team is part of the Customer Service and Operations Directorate, being a Crew Delivery Manager for GWR is a rewarding fast-paced role working with a fantastic team who are highly motivated and willing to go the extra mile to deliver for our internal customers day after day.
About the job?
The role is responsible for the delivery of Traincrew in the right place at the right time for Drivers, Guards and Catering Colleagues across the entire GWR network, the role involves working closely with other colleagues in our Integrated Control Centre based at Western House in Swindon, the team manage the booking on and off of Traincrew colleagues as well as forward planning the service, carrying out medication enquiries, dealing with colleagues who can at times can need added support.
The role is fast paced, and no day is the same as the team play a vital part in delivery of the timetable for our customers along with balancing the needs of our Crews. The role is desk based using various computer packages unique to the Railway, once on shift you take Control and Manage your section for the Crew on our network. The role also involves working with a Team of Line Managers across the network to support Crew welfare.
Attention to detail in the role is key in running a right time railway for our customers, working to identify areas to support the Every Second Count programme as GWR welcomes its customers back post pandemic.
Communication is vital and key that you are professional on the phone and with colleagues in the Control Centre to ensure vital messages are passed correctly between teams. A good level of organisation and Administration skills are also required.
Your main responsibilities will be:
- Passing Safety Critical information to colleagues by phone as they book on for duty
- In handling telephone and email queries, be polite and professional always
- Be forward thinking to ensure all trains leave destination on time
- Manage service disruption in a calm and professional manner
- Pre-plan the service to ensure all services are covered for future days once Rostering has been completed
- Work to Terms and Conditions agreed with our Trade Unions
- Various Administration duties throughout your shift
- Build good relationships with our Crew Management to maximise coverage and other teams in Control to maximise service coverage
- The role is Competency based and regular assessments will be carried out in the role to help maintain high standards.
You'll need to be:
- Computer literate ideally in Office 365, Trust, Crewplan and Integrale however training can be given
- Have Great communication skills and remain calm under pressure
- Have Great organisation skills
- Be very proactive with a good eye for detail
- Be flexible to help meet the needs of the business
- A great Team player and willing to be a supportive colleague to other team members and the wider business
- Knowledge of the GWR network
- Prepared to work shifts including nights and weekends, we operate 24 hours a day
As a minimum you'll need to have:
- Passion and ability to deliver a first-class service to our colleagues
- A willingness to learn as training takes approx 3 to 4 months
- Live within 1 hour of Swindon
- Be looking for a challenging role in the Rail industry

The role is based in Western House our Integrated Control Centre shared with our colleagues from Network Rail in Swindon, the offices are 5 minute's walk from the Rail and Bus Station. We are also minutes away from the Designer Outlet Centre and Town Centre with an array of shops and eating establishments. There is also a Cafeteria on site serving home cooked breakfast and lunches Monday - Friday
Working Pattern?
Working as part of a Roster covering 37 hours per week over 7 days on a rotation basis including nights and weekends
