We are seeking to appoint a Laboratory Manager, to have overall responsibility of the day-to-day monitoring of the laboratory facilities, supporting the PIs and Group Leaders at the CAMS Oxford Institute located at Old Road Campus, Headington.
You will be responsible for providing technical and administrative support to ensure the efficient running of the laboratories. Your main role will be to work alongside group members in maintaining, for example, cell cultures, preparing buffers and common reagent stocks. You will act as the designated COI Health and Safety Officer and Biological Safety Officer ensuring that a safe working environment is achieved, and you will work alongside the facilities team to ensure that planned equipment maintenance is scheduled to minimise disruption to research activity. You will manage the Laboratories freezer storage and safe handling of liquid nitrogen in the cryostorage, and you will induct, supervise and train all laboratory staff in the use of core equipment (centrifuges, cold rooms, cryostorage facilities) as well inductions for CL1 laboratories and CL2 Tissue culture laboratories. You will be responsible for the line management of the COI Laboratory Technician.
It is essential that you are educated to degree level or equivalent in a biological subject, and have recent experience of laboratory support in a life science laboratory. You will be experienced in implementing Health and Safety procedures, and have knowledge of Health and Safety legislation as they relate to the scientific workplace. You will be able to organise and prioritise work efficiently, delivering results to a high standard and to an agreed schedule, and you will be able to demonstrate a high level of communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to work effectively within a team. Unsociable working hours may be required as work demands from time to time, therefore it is essential that you are willing and available to respond to alarms and emergencies when required.
