Job Description

Are you a Biomedical engineer who is looking for their next opportunity?

Applications are invited for a biomedical engineer with an interest in translational research to join the Biomechanics Group at Imperial College London. We have recently been awarded funding to develop an active implantable medical device, which will be used to deliver precise, patient-specific treatments.

Building on our promising lab results, the postholder will take ownership of all stages trialling our device in preclinical trial, including experimental design, trial management, data collection, quantitative analysis, and reporting of results.

The role will be based within the Biomechanics Group at Imperial College London, a world top-ten university based in the centre of London, and will have access to state-of-the-art facilities in Imperial College London’s Medical Device Prototype & Manufacture Unitand the Sir Michael Uren Biomedical Engineering Research Hub.

Duties and responsibilities



  • You will participate in the mechanical design of an implantable device as part of a cross-functional engineering team.

  • You will design study protocols and data analysis plans to assess the safety and efficacy of an active implantable medical device.

  • You will manage the preclinical with our partner institution, ensuring alignment between project goals and regulatory requirements.

  • You will collect and conduct quantitative analysis of study data, which may include histology, CT/µCT, microscopy, and qPCR assays.

Essential requirements



  • For appointment at Associate level, you will hold a PhD in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related discipline, or have equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience.

  • You will be proficient in experimental design and statistical analysis for medical research.

  • You should be willing to learn new skills as the project progresses.

  • Prior experience of preclinical research and/or clinical trials is highly desirable as is familiarity with the regulations and guidelines for orthopaedic devices.
